OUR MISSION IS TO PROMOTE THE HEALTH OF ALL CANADIANS THROUGH DIABETES RESEARCH, EDUCATION, SERVICE AND ADVOCACY.

CDA'S VISION IS THAT---"By the year 2005, the Canadian Diabetes Association will be pivotal in preventing the onset and reducing the burden of diabetes in Canada and will be publicly recognized for its role.

Our network of members, volunteers, health care professionals, partners and staff will interact with every community, achieving quality relationships with two million of the people in Canada affected by diabetes.

Hi and Welcome to my personal information page on the Yorkton and District Branch of the Canadian Diabetes Association. (Updated as of Sunday the 7th of November, 1999). I apologize for the mess here but I am in the process of constantly trying to keep the information updated and current so please be patient with me for a while.

Now about our branch---It was formed in the mid 80's to provide support and assistance to families with recently diagnosed children with diabetes. Over the years it has grown, changed, faltered and rebounded, but one thing has remained constant: the need to provide support to diabetics in the area.

GREAT NEWS FLASH----Our branch recently held a joint press conference with East Central Health District to announce the official launching of a new computer system for the Diabetes Education section of the Yorkton hospital. Through a very generous donation from the Parkland Lions Club we were able to purchase a state of the art computer to be used by our diabetes educators for monitoring blood sugar readings. Using software programs dontated by LifeScan Canada, Medisense Canada and other suppliers of blood monitoring meters, we are now able to offer a program to all persons with diabetes to better monitor and hopefully better control their diabetes. The computer and software programs basicly allow people to down load their meter readings into the computer, then analysis their data with the health care professionals and have the capibility of printing out these results in the form of graphs, charts etc. to take to their Doctors for further evaluation. We believe that we are the first branch in the province to offer this type of a program to our members and non members alike around the community. If all goes well perhaps other branches and chapters will pick up on the idea and give more people around the province the ability to take advantage of this new idea. The branch here would also like to thank the East Central Health District for allowing us to place the computer into the hospital and giving us space close to the Diabetes Education section to operate from...Thanks everybody and lets make the best use possible of this new tool...

Again, just about two years ago now we had announced the formation of our Youth Support Group, covering both branches of Yorkton and Melville. Under the expert guidance of Diane Gleason (Yorkton) and Patty Acton (Melville) I am pleased to say that all is going extremely well with the group at this time. Also at this time just as way of an update, the Chapter from Potashville that came under our wing a couple of years ago is doing just fantastic. As a matter of fact I think if we don't watch ourselves, they will be overtaking us any day now. Way to go to Melba and her gang..Keep up the great work.
