Fraley Family Album IIThese are photographs of my Grandfather's brothers. This is my Great Grandfather Solomon's, first born son after his desertion from the Confederate Army of Virginia and his relocation to Preston County, W.Virginia, a more pro-Union area. You will notice that apparently in his attempt not to be identified as a confederate deserter or sympathizer, he named his son after a famous, although not too competent, 'Union' general. This is James William. I have seen his name shown as James William E.. Perhaps my father was named after him. My parents used to visit at Uncle Cal's home in Pennsylvania when going to visit my mother's family. That's way before I was ever thought of... Henry was never married and was living with his sister, Rama and her family in 1910. Thomas Solomon is my cousin , William Hoover's direct ancestor. Thomas' daughter was William's mother. Apparently in 1872 when Great Uncle Jeff was born, Great Grandfather had no concerns about naming him after the President of the Confederacy, Jefferson Davis. |
