Ay the small village of Sharon, three miles west of Caldwell in Noble County,
lives a gunsmith who is known throughout the United States as a maker of fine
muzzle-loading rifles.
He is D L Ackley, who at the age of 76 is still active although he no longer
undertakes to fill the orders he receives from all overt the country.
Mr. Ackley explains he has enough to do, repairing guns for people in this
own territory.
Starting as a gunsmith when he was 16 years old, he has won an outstanding
reputation for his fine workman-ship. His handsomely inlaid muzzleloaders are
well known among lovers of competition with these old-fashioned weapons.
Mr. Ackley's well-equipped shop at Sharon is a popular spot for residents of
the community who never cease to marvel at the veteran gunsmith's skill with
tools.
He formerly lived south of Caldwell but has been located at Sharon since 1913.

needs reboring they generally take it to Luther Ackley in Sharon, Ohio. Mr.
Ackley, who is now 80 years old, has been doing this work for over 60 years,
and when he cuts new rifling in a gun barrel, that gun will shoot a group that

CALDWELL- Mrs Alberta Ackley, 94, of Sharon died at 4:50 p.m. Sunday in Summit
Acres Nursing Home here.
Born in Morgan County, Jan. 23, 1879, she was a daughter of Evans and Alice
Wheeler Oglevee.
Mrs Ackley was a member of Rocky Ford United Methodist Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs Nellie Ackley Ralph of Sharon; two granddaughters,
Mrs Gayle Scott of Arlington and Mrs Richard Sistek of Parma; eight great-grandchildren
and nine great-great-grandchildren. Her husband, Luther, died in 1949. A son
and a daughter are also deceased.
Friends may call 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at McVay Funeral Home where services
will be held at 2 p,m. Wednesday conducted by Rev Ola Teeters and Rev Carroll
Meyers. Burial will be in Dudley Cemetery She was buried in Dudley Cemetery,
Olive, Noble , Ohio.100

about 1909 "Lesta Hazel, eldest child of Luther and Bertie Ackley,
died of peritonitis January 5th, at the home of her parents three miles south
of Caldwell, aged 12 years, 4 months and 7 days. Lesta was a bright and lovable
girl and the home is very sad without her. She was taken sick Christmas eve
and suffered intensely until a short time before her death. Her prayer was mercifully
answered and her spirit peacefully passed away. The bereaved family consisting
of father, mother, a sister and brother are heartbroken at their loss, but have
the sincere sympathy of a host of neighbors and friends. Special and appropriate
services at the home, conducted by Pastor McCall, were largely attended and the
body lovingly and tenderly laid to rest in the Dudley cemetery to await the coming
of Him who said, "Suffer the little children to come unto me."
She was buried in Dudley Cemetery, Olive, Noble , Ohio.6,100 "Lestie
