Visitation will be Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 p.m. at Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City. Visitation will continue one hour prior to services in the church on Monday.
Dorothy Catherine Schulz was born June 30, 1916 in Noltimier Township, rural Barnes County, North Dakota, the daughter of Rheinhold and Lena (Henning) Schulz. She grew up in Noltimier township on a farm and went to school at Noltimier School and graduated from high school there.
On March 26, 1942 she was united in marriage to Columbus Ackley. They made their home on a farm south of Luverne, North Dakota. Columbus died in June of 1950 and Dorothy continued to live on the farm until moving into Valley City, North Dakota in 1969.
She was a member of Salem Methodist Church until July 2002 when it closed and her membership was transferred to Epworth United Methodist Church, Valley City. She was also a member of Noltimier Homemakers Club, a Birthday Club, and the Eagle s Auxiliary.
Dorothy enjoyed watching the birds, visiting on the telephone and doing word search puzzles. Prior to her illness, she enjoyed gardening (both vegetable and flower), having coffee with her friends at the Bus Depot, and attending Birthday Club, Homemakers, and Eagles Auxiliary meetings.
She is survived by her children, Carol (David) Jacobsen, West Fargo, North Dakota, Dennis (Somjit) Ackley, Chandler, Arizona, David Ackley, Miles City, Montana, and Phyllis (Rodney) Larson, Bloomington, Minnesota; grandchildren, Kelly (Kimberly) Jacobsen, West Fargo, North Dakota, Kristi (Randy) Olinger, Edina, Minnesota, Holly Jo (Scott) Wolbaum, Dickinson, North Dakota, and Angela Sigl, Fargo, North Dakota; great grandchildren, Kody & Kaitlyn Jacobsen and Jacob Olinger; sisters, Mildred Wells, Portland, Oregon and Pearl (Charles) Swisher, Dufur, Oregon; a brother, Fred (Colleen) Schulz; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband of 8 years; an infant daughter; and two sisters, Verna and Ardella.
Funeral arrangements are by Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel, Valley City.
