1. Daniel W ACKLEY was born about 1800 in Batavia, Genesee , New York.^1,2,3 He appeared in the census in 1830 in New York. He was living in 1830 in Batavia, Genesee , New York.⁴ He moved to Michigan from New York in 1836² He was living in 1840 in Ingham , Michigan.⁵ He was living between 1844 and 1860 in Leslie, Ingham , Michigan.^1,3,6 On 23 Sep 1850 he was Carpenter at Leslie, Ingham , Michigan.¹ In 1860 he was Farmer at Leslie, Ingham , Michigan.³ He appeared in the census 1840, 1850 & 1860 in Michigan. Daniel Ackley was born in Batavia, N. Y. In 1829 he married Sarah Wortman, They came to Michigan in 1836 and settled on a farm north of town. Bears were plentiful at that time. One Sunday morning he and his wife Were taking a walk when she saw an animal which she mistook for an Indian pony. Mr. Ackley secured his rifle and killed the animal which was a bear seven feet two inches in length. To them two children were born: (1) Eleanor, born Nov. 14, 1841 ; died April 17, 1848. (2) Martin, born April 10, 1845; died April 5, 1912. Martin had two children: Fred, born Dec. 21, 1873; died July 9, 1908. Sarah E., born June 9, 1876; married Addison Van Aistine and now lives on the old homestead.
