Mrs Ackley, a tester in the GE lightning arrester section, attended local schools
and Berkshire Business College. Mr Ackley, a Pittsfield High School alumnus,
is a mechanic at Haddad's Garage. He served two and a half years in the European
theater prior to being discharged. Between 1960 and 1965 he was General Electric

CHESHIRE -- Fred L. Ackley Sr., 76, of 147 Railroad St. died Sunday at home.
Born in Pittsfield on June 3, 1922, son of David and Fannie Higgins Ackley, he
was a 12th generation direct descendant of one of the Mayflower Pilgrims. He
attended local schools and graduated from technical electronics correspondence
school.
He served in the Army during World War II with Company C, 358th Infantry Regiment.
He received the Purple Heart for wounds inflicted in the Battle of Normandy,
and the Bronze Star for campaigns in Northern France, Rhineland, Germany and
Central Europe.
Mr. Ackley was employed by General Electric Co. in the ordnance division for
35 years. He worked on the Polaris, Poseidon and Trident missile systems until
retiring in 1987. During the 1960s, he managed the former Wildcat Shooters Supply
Co. in Pittsfield.
He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs. An outdoorsman,
he enjoyed fishing, hunting and archery. He was also a pilot, and was a member
of the Airplane Owners & Pilots and National Rifle associations. Mr. Ackley
helped found the New England Trail Riders Association and served as trail marshal
for the International Six Day Trials, which were held in 1973. A member of the
Outdoor World Camping Association, he also enjoyed recreational vehicle camping.
He leaves a son, Fred L. Ackley Jr. of Williamstown; a daughter, Marcia Orazio
of Dalton; a half-brother, David Ackley of Pittsfield; his longtime companion,
Rita Gordon of Cheshire; his former wife, Catherine Beals Ackley of Williamstown,
and five grandchildren

ACKLEY -- Graveside services for Mr. Fred L. Ackley Sr., 76, of Cheshire, Mass.,
who died Jan. 17, 1999, at his home after an apparent heart attack, were held
Friday, April 16, 1999, at the Cheshire Cemetery, Cheshire, Mass., with full
military honors. Rev. Robert Kyte, pastor of First Congregational Church of Dalton,
Mass., officiated. A special Thank You to the Dalton American Legion and to Doug
Ackley of the Lanesboro VFW and a nephew of Mr. Ackley for arranging full military
tribute for our loved one; it was greatly appreciated. The Ackley family. DERY-CHESHIRE

Miss Catherine Beals of 457 Cheshire Road will become the bride tomorrow afternoon
at 1 of Fred Leon Ackley, of 810 Dalton Avenue. Rev. Harold A Schlink will perform
the ceremony at the Morningside Baptist Church.
Miss Beals will have as matron of honor, Mrs Mary Mildred Norton, Cheryl Ann
Beals of Westfield, niece of the bride-elect, will be flower girl. John A Ackley
will be his brothers best man, and Ernest Beals, brother of the bride-elect,
and Raymond Rattlgan are to usher.
Miss Beals has been honored at showers given by her sister, Mrs Omar A Oudin,
Mrs Norton, and by her associates at GE. She died on 22 Aug 2007 in Williamstown,

35 Adams Road, Williamstown, died on Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2007, at the Williamstown
Commons.
Born in Pittsfield on March 11, 1917, she was a daughter of William J. and Sophie
(Biesiegel) Beals. She attended schools in Pittsfield.
She was employed at General Electric Co. in Pittsfield for several years. She
then was employed as a waitress at several restaurants in Berkshire County, including
the Tyler and Soda Chef restaurants and Peter's Diner, all in Pittsfield, and
the Four Acres Restaurant in Williamstown. She retired at the age of 76.
She was a former member of the First Congregational Church of Pittsfield.
She was a member of the Silver Star Rebecca Lodge, where she served as grand
marshal for several years. She also was the former president of the Friendship
Club at the Harper Center in Williamstown.
She was a devoted mother and grandmother.
She leaves a son, Fred Ackley and his wife, Deborah, of Williamstown; a daughter,
Marcia Orazio and her husband, Louis, of Dalton; five grandchildren, Ryan Ackley
of Breckinridge, Colo., Ross Ackley of Boston, Melissa Orazio of Pittsfield,
Adam Orazio of Dalton and Lisa Steiner and her husband, Luke, of Dalton; and
a brother, Ernest W. Beals of Dalton.
Two brothers, Earl Beals and William Beals, and two sisters, Anna Flanders and
Alice Walstad, are deceased.
FUNERAL NOTICE Funeral services for Catherine Ackley will take place Monday,
Aug. 27, at 11 a.m., at the First Congregational Church of Dalton with the Rev.
Robert Kyte officiating. Burial will follow in Main Street Cemetery in Dalton.
Calling hours are Sunday, from 3 to 6 p.m., at the Flynn & Dagnoli- Montagna
Home for Funerals, West Chapels, 521 W. Main St. North Adams.
Memorial donations may be made to the Williamstown Friendship Club or the charity
of the donor's choice.
