Bertha "Bert" Merry, age 80, of North Pennsylvania Avenue, Wellston, died early Saturday morning, Sept. 5 at her residence after being in failing health for the past year.
She was the former owner of Merry's 5&10 Store, now Perdue's.
Daughter of the late Joseph and Alma (Ackley) Bigley, she was born Dec. 12, 1906 in Caldwell. She was a member of Hope United Methodist Church, where served as financial secretary; the Wellston Rose Society; the Garden Club; the TriConta Forum Garden Club; and served as a board member and judge with the Garden Club of Ohio. She was also a former member of the Study Club.
Survivors include several very close friends and neighbors; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, in 1982; and a brother.
Friends may call from 6 to 9 tonight (Tuesday) at the Jenkins Funeral Chapel of Wellston, where services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. McClellan Nicholson officiating. Burial will be in Ridgewood Cemetery.
