He received a bachelor of science degree in chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh, and also did graduate work there. He was active in national paper industry activities.
His wife, the former Edith A. Adolfson, died in 1982.
He leaves two sons, Robert Jr. of Dayton, Ohio, and Philip of Vienna, Va., and three grandchildren.
A memorial gathering will be conducted Friday afternoon in Loomis House, with burial at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Loomis House Friendship Fund, 298 Jarvis Ave., Holyoke, 01040.
