Harrisburg. Aug 17- -(AP) Governor Martin said today Dr Clarence E Ackley, deputy superintendent of Public Instruction “has been given notice” his services will not be required after August 23.
The executive at his Press conference declined to amplify the statement.
Dr Ackley's removal had been reported in connection with a reorganization of the education department,

Asked if Dr Hass would be retained, Martin replied:
Capital reports that other changes are contemplated in the education department brought from Martin “I haven't made any study of personnel.”
The 58 year-old Dr Ackley came to the education department in 1935 from Pittsburgh after several years of teaching in high school. Clarence E Ackley who is 63 years old today is an acknowledged leader in Pennsylvania educational circles. The son of Samuel Ackley, a farmer, and Sarah McGarry Ackley, he was a student at Caldwell high school and latter attended Oberlin college where he was awarded the degrees of bachelor of arts and masters of arts in 1910 and 1913 respectively. Subsequently, during the course of his activities he pursued graduate studies at teachers college of Columbia university and the University of Pittsburgh, receiving the degree of doctor of philosophy from the latter institution in 1933.
With this background of training it was only natural for Dr Ackley to have made teaching and education his lifes work, and thus, as his first position he served as super intendant of schools at Chesterland from 1910 to 1912. This was followed by six years spent as teacher of English in high schools of Helena, Montana and Louisville Kentucky, and by the succeeding ten years as super intendant of schools in various communities of Kentucky. As may be expected he is active in the professional societies of his field, including the National Education Association, Pennsylvania Education Association, American Association of University Professors, and has been a frequent contributor of articles, particularly on school law, to their journals.

During 1913-14 he was teacher of English in the high school at Helena, Montana, and then took charge of the same department in the boys' high school at Louisville, Kentucky. He acted in that capacity for four years and in 1918 was offered the post of assistant superintendent of the schools of Louisville but accepted instead the superintendency in Anchorage, Kentucky, where he spent two years. In 1920 he took charge of the schools of Winchester, Kentucky, and since 1922 has been at the head of the Ashland schools, which have made notable progress in the intervening period.
