CALDWELL -- James Robert "Jim" Ackley, 83, of 16554 Ackley Lane, Caldwell, died Wednesday evening, Nov. 23, 2005, at the Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge.
Born Dec. 9, 1921, he was the son of the late James W. and Barbara B. Schockling Ackley. He was a graduate of Caldwell High School. Mr. Ackley served his country during World War II with the 68th Air Service Group of the U.S. Army. He retired in 1986 from the Dana Corp., following 32 years of employment. He was a member of St. Stephen's Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Father Kleuber Council 2565 and the American Legion Post 64. He was a former member of the American Haflinger Registry and enjoyed farming, hunting and especially spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Mildred Schott Ackley, whom he married on June 11, 1947. Also surviving are two daughters, Patty (Ron) Dimmerling of Sarahsville and Pam (Don) Bickford of Cumberland; four sons, James W. "Jim" (Charlene) Ackley of Wayzata, Minn., Jeff (Debra) Ackley of Zanesville, Rick (Angela) Ackley of Caldwell and Dave (Theresa) Ackley of Caldwell; 16 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Linda Marie; an infant grandson, David Nicholas Ackley; and five sisters, Florence Bridgman, Emma Estadt, Thelma Ackley, Mildred Ogle and Mary Michel.
Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 28, 2005, at St. Stephen's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Dale Tornes officiating. Burial with full military rites will be observed at Mount Olive Cemetery in Caldwell.
Calling hours will be any time Sunday, Nov. 27, at the Chandler Funeral Home, Caldwell, where the family will be in attendance from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Sunday.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Stephen's Catholic Church.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Homes, Marietta.
