Indiantown

Edna O. Ackley, 76, died Jan. 10, 2004, in Martin Memorial Hospital South, Port Salerno.
She was a teacher in middle and high schools for more than 20 years.
Mrs. Ackley was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Advent, Palm City.
She was a friend of the Indiantown Library.
Survivors include her husband, Earl E. Ackley of Indiantown; sons, James Ackley of Lynchburg, Va., and Robert Ackley of Greenville, S.C.; daughters, Beth Heatwole of Richmond, Va., and Judy Morgan of Lexington, Va.; sister, Shirley Stevens of Glens Falls, N.Y.; and 13 grandchildren.
SERVICES: A memorial service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Jan. 11 at the Church of the Advent. Arrangements are by Forest Hills Funeral Home, Palm City.

Edna Oldham Ackley, 76, of Indiantown, Fla., formerly of Lynchburg, died on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2004.
She was born on April 26, 1927, in Fort Lee, N.J., a daughter of the late Harold and May Cummins Oldham.
Edna was raised in Glens Falls, N.Y., graduating from Glens Falls High School in 1945. She received a B.S. degree in English and Theatre Education from Syracuse University in 1949 and taught for a year in Gouverneur, N.Y. In 1950 she married Earl Ackley and moved to Syracuse, N.Y., where they began their family and she worked as a substitute teacher. In 1957, Edna and Earl moved to Lynchburg where she continued to substitute teach while earning her Master of Arts in Teaching from Lynchburg College in 1969. She then began a 17-year career teaching in the Lynchburg Public Schools, first at Robert S. Payne Elementary School and then at Sandusky Middle School. Following their retirement, Edna and Earl moved to Smith Mountain Lake and then Indiantown, Fla.
Edna was an active member of each community in which she lived. A longtime member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, she spent many years staffing the church nursery during Sunday services. As a member of the Fort Hill Junior Woman’s Club she revived, produced and directed the Miss Lynchburg Pageant for a number of years. She was a member of Reach to Recovery for breast cancer patients and the Smith Mountain Lake Fire Belles volunteer auxiliary. Her love of reading and teaching led her to be a volunteer at the Moneta and Bedford Public Libraries, a member of the Board of Directors of the Indiantown Public Library, and a volunteer teacher of English as a Second Language at Hope Rural School in Indiantown.
In addition to her husband of 53 years, she is survived by four children, Jim Ackley and wife, Susan, of Lynchburg, Rob Ackley and wife, Ann, of Greenville, S.C., Beth Heatwole and husband, Steve, of Chesterfield County, and Jody Morgan of Lexington; a sister, Shirley Stevens of Glens Falls, N.Y.; and grandchildren, James Ackley Jr., Meg Ackley, Emily Ackley Van Zant and husband, Court, Robert Ackley Jr., Ann Browning Ackley, Brett Harman, Elizabeth Harman, Maggie Harman, Caroline Harman, Megan Heatwole, Jake Morgan, Hannah Morgan, and Cameron Morgan; two nephews, Michael Dew of Denver, Colo., and Stephen Dew of Glens Falls, N.Y.; and a niece, Kathy Stevens Gwinup of Lake George, N.Y. She was preceded in death by two brothers-in-law, James Dew and Roger Stevens, and a son-in-law, Jeffrey Morgan.
The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 16, 2004, at the home of her son, Jim Ackley, 238 Woodland Ave. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Jan. 17, at 1 p.m. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Seventh and Clay streets, with a reception immediately following in the church undercroft.
