Ackley, 88, of Tollesboro, son of the late Alvin and Lina Ackley, died after an extended illness at his home on Aug. 27, 2003.
He was a longtime landowner, fertilizer dealer and farmer in Lewis County. He was a member and past officer of the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ, and a founder and director of the Sugarloaf Christian Service Camp in Fleming County.
Scoby is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gladys Ackley; two daughters, Loretta (Darrell) Dixon of Tollesboro, and Judy (Tom) Calvert of Manchester, Ohio; three grandchildren, Kim (Joey) Centers of Berea, Todd (Wendi) Calvert of West Union, Ohio, and Marsha (Charles) Turner of Manchester, Ohio; and five great-grandchildren, Whitnee, Bethanee and Jayden Centers, Jacob Wade Calvert and Karigan Turner.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ott and Russ Ackley; two sisters, Anna Ackley and Gert Hutchinson; and two grandchildren, Wade and Dwight Hord. He was also preceded in death by son-in-law, Delmar Hord.
Services will be held Saturday, Aug. 30, at 1 p.m. at the Barbour and Son Funeral Home in Tollesboro with Bro. Hillary Underwood officiating. Burial will be in Mount Carmel Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Todd Calvert, Joey Centers, Bo Turner, Tom Ackley, Roy Hutchinson and Randy Stamm. Honorary pallbearers are Leo Doyle, Ralph Mineer, Walter Ackley, Harry Ackley, Cecil Beiland, Michael Stamm and Jackie Thomas.
Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Hospice of Hope in Maysville, or to the Pleasant Valley Church of Christ.
