Gerald Wade HORD was born about 1970.96 He died on 11 Feb 1993 in Tollesboro, Lewis, Kentucky.96 His Death Notice appeared in the Lexington Herald-Leader on 13 Feb 1993 in Lexington, Fayette, Kentucky MAYSVILLE -- The U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration and Dravo Lime Co. officials were investigating an accident that killed a Tollesboro man.
Gerald Wade Hord, 23, was working as a scaler operator when the accident occurred about 9 p.m. Thursday, said Marshall Johnson, Dravo's vice president of operations. Johnson said Mr. Hord, who had been at Dravo since 1990, was taking down loose material in the mine. Johnson declined to provide further details.
Mason County Deputy Coroner Jim Brell Jr. said an autopsy was planned.
The last non-coal mining fatality in Kentucky occurred June 3, 1992, when a roof fall killed a miner at a Leitchfield limestone quarry, said Rodney Brown, a spokesman for the U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration. Brown said that was Kentucky's only quarrying death last year.
Mr. Hord was the son of Loretta Ackley Hord of Tollesboro.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at Barbour & Son Funeral Home in Tollesboro. Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Sunday.
