"When I was small my mother had what was then called lung fever (which I
presume is now called Pneumonia). I stayed for some time with my aunt Sara Carroll,
till my mother recovered."
"My great uncle Daniel Ackley never married until he was about 65 years
of age & he married a widow lady by the name of Roseanna Rockey who had three
sons by her marriage (she was a very nice lady) Isaac, Nathan and Danny Rockey.
Following the death of Aunt Roseanna, her oldest son, who was married, went to
the home of Daniel Ackley (in his absence) & removed practically all the
furniture from his home. I recall when Danny Rockey died of Diphtheria."
From the above Daniel apparently married about 1871 and Rockey was Roseanna's
married name rather than her maiden name.
"When my brother Danny was about 11 years of age, he was in school one day
and he and another boy were running around the schoolhouse and another boy threw
a stone at two other boys and accidentally hit my brother in the head, which
eventually caused his death. Bruce Allison and Emmet Newman were teasing another
boy (Les Dorsey) & he was throwing stones at them and my brother was accidentally
hit. It was a year after he was hit that he had a convulsion & shortly after
that he started to go blind. We had him to several Drs. but nothing seemed to
be of any help & he was paralyzed so that he was unable to walk before he
died. He lacked a few days of being 13 years of age when he passed away."
"My sister Nellie had typhoid fever in 1896 shortly after we built this
house. Aunt Lela Ackley came and nursed her back to health & she later contracted
tuberculosis from which she never recovered and passed away in Jan.1907. She
was never very strong."
----our first baby girl died at the age of 13 days. She was the most beautiful
child I ever saw, she was as fair as a lily & had beautiful curley hair."
The baby girl was named Lillie Marie Ackley.
Forrest and Cora raised Cora's nephew, John Salisbury, as a foster son.
