of Norman, Oklahoma, died Thursday, July 6, 2006, at home. Graveside Services
will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday, July 10, 2006, at Norman I.O.O.F. Cemetery
with Reverend Pam Normile officiating. Services are under the direction of Havenbrook
Funeral Home of Norman, Oklahoma. Ruth Dilworth Fell was born August 19, 1906
to Walter Lucien and Margaret Griffin Dilworth. She attended primary and secondary
schools in Ardmore, Oklahoma and graduated from Ardmore High School in 1924.
She had one brother, William Sherrod Dilworth, who predeceased her in 1989. She
attended the University of Oklahoma from which she was graduated as a Bachelor
of Arts & Science in 1928, and in 1941 as a Master of Arts in English Literature.
She was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma and Phi Beta Kappa. She married Daniel
Ackley Fell III in Ardmore in 1928 and they were married until his death in 1964.
They had one daughter, Margaret, who resides with her husband Dr. Thomas W. Thurston
in Norman. Ruth Fell resided in Wewoka until 1943 when they moved to Norman where
she resided until her death. She was a member of the faculty of the University
of Oklahoma until her retirement in 1976. Following her retirement from OU she
served for a number of years at the YMCA of the Rockies in Estes Park, Colorado,
until her second retirement in 1995. She is survived by her daughter, Margaret
Thurston, of Norman; two grandchildren, Thomas W. Thurston Jr., of Norman and
Catherine Thurston Carroll, of Edmond; two nephews, Robert H. Dilworth, of Arlington,
VA and James Y. Dilworth, of El Paso, TX; two nieces, Elizabeth Fell Oven, of
Enid, OK and Frances Fell Malone, of Houston, TX; and two great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by many whom she served as teacher, friend, colleague and
mentor. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Norman
Regional Hospital Foundation, P. O. Box 1665, Norman, Oklahoma 73070. Send condolences
