WILKES-BARRE, Pa., Nov. 20-Daniel Ackley Fell, former judge and District Attorney
of Luzerne County, former postmaster and Councilman of Wilkes-Barre and descendant
of Judge Jesse Fell, who first burned anthracite in an open grate more than a
century ago, died today at the family home here. His age was 81. He attended
the public schools of Wilkes-Barre, the Wyoming Seminary, the Harry Hulman Academy
and Lawrenceville in NJ preparing for Princeton University in NJ.
He graduated from Princeton University in 1883 with a Bachelor of
Arts Degree and returned to Wilkes-Barre where he took up the study of
law in the office of Hon. E.G. Butler and was admitted to the Luzerne County
Bar 17 July 1885. He served as a member of the Wilkes-Barre City Council.
He was appointed Deputy Revenue Collector for the Wilkes-Barre
District.
He was elected District Attorney of Luzerne County for three
years. He was Acting Postmaster of Wilkes-Barre. He was appointed by Governor
John K, Tenor as a Law Judge of Luzerne County and was a member of the
Coal Commission of Luzerne County during the Civil War.
He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Luzerne
County Bar Association, the Westmoreland Club and the Franklin Club of
Wilkes-Barre.
