Joshua ACKLEY⁴ was born on 2 Jul 1804 in Great Egg Harbor, Gloucester , New Jersey.^{3,4,14,20,21,22} LDS states of Morris Township, Greene Co., PA He was living between 1830 and 1880 in Rich Hill, Greene , Pennsylvania.^{4,20,21,22,37,53,54} Between 1850 and 1880 he was Farmer at Rich Hill, Greene , Pennsylvania.^20,21,22 He died on 30 Sep 1881 in Morris Township, Greene , Pennsylvania.^3,4,55,56 He was buried in Chapel Cemetery, Washington , Pennsylvania.^4,56 He appeared in the census 1830, 1840, 1850, 1860, 1870 & 188 in Pennsylvania. He was Postmaster at Greene , Pennsylvania.⁵⁵ He received a military pension Know all men by these presents that I, Joshua Ackley guardian of Foster E. Ackley, a minor child of Parker Ackley decd. do hereby constitute, appoint and empower J. P. Teagarden of Waynesburg Pa. my true and lawful attorney to prosecute the claim No. 204.787 of the minor child of Parker Ackley decd for pension in place of J. Jackson Purman who has withdrawn from the prosecution of said claim, on the same conditions and with same powers and same fees as was per contract with said J. Jackson Purman.

land transactions between several individuals and Joshua and Daniel Jr.. In Appearance Docket, Volume 26, Page 120 there was an entry that Joshua was awarded $1,017.50 from James Burns. Joshua was guardian of William L. Burns' minor children.
In the Advertising Business Directory of Greene County, date unknown, Daniel and Joshua are listed as jointly owning 200 sheep and 500 acres of land.
In the "History of Washington County, PA" by Boyd Crumrine, page 983, it is stated that the first Post Office in West Finley Township (Washington County), was established In 1832. The first Postmaster was William C. Burns, succeeded by Joshua Ackley who moved the Post Office to Greene County where it remained until succeeded by William C. Teagarden. Joshua actually established the Post Office in his home and he had a very large desk he used for sorting the mail, etc. This is probably why his home was named Burdette and it is still shown as such on current, detailed maps.

After Joshua's death his younger brother, Daniel Ackley Jr,, contested the will, asserting that he was an equal owner of the property with Joshua. He won his case. The Court Record of the trial together with Joshua's obituary written, undoubtedly, by his widow, has been a gold mine of information regarding the family.

She died on 10 Jun 1851 in Greene , Pennsylvania.^3,4 She was buried in Ackley Cemetery, Greene , Pennsylvania.⁴ another source has last name as Strong Joshua ACKLEY and Martha Ann SARGENT had the following children:

Henry Price ACKLEY was born on 28 Jul 1847 in Pennsylvania.^4,20 He appeared in the census in 1850 in Pennsylvania. He died on 21 Sep 1851.⁴ He was buried in Ackley Cemetery, Greene , Pennsylvania.⁴

Joshua ACKLEY and Jemima RUSH were married on 25 Sep 1852 in Greene , Pennsylvania.^4,14 Jemima RUSH⁴ (daughter of Michael RUSH and Anna BABBITT) was born on 7 May 1815 in Pennsylvania.⁴ Gordon Fralick has year as 1817 She died on 25 Apr 1856.⁴ She was buried in Ackley Cemetery, Greene , Pennsylvania.⁴ Jemima is the sister of Sarah Rush wife of Samuel Ackley and 1st cousin once removed of Elizabeth Rush, George Washington Ackley's wife.

Jemima was the 5G Granddaughter of John Rush, born In 1619, who commanded a troop of Calvary under Cromwell. Dr. Benjamin Rush, George Washington's physician and signer of the Declaration of Independence, was the 3G Grandson of John Rush, Jemima therefore was Benjamin's 4th cousin, twice removed.

Joshua ACKLEY and Rhoda Sturgis LILMAN were married on 25 Nov 1858 in Greene , Pennsylvania.^4,21,22 They filed for divorce on 17 Mar 1869 in Waynesville Court House, Greene , Pennsylvania.⁴ apparently the divorce was not completed as they were still married in 1880 Rhoda Sturgis LILMAN was born on 25 Oct 1825 in Smithfield, Bradford , Pennsylvania.^4,21,22 She died on 1 Jan 1897 in Chapel Cemetery, Washington , Pennsylvania.⁴ She appeared in the census 1860 & 1880 in Pennsylvania.
