Richard K. Gearhiser Found Dead Following Fall from Tractor.

Richard Kreider Gearhiser, 53, was killed early last evening when he fell from his tractor while plowing at his home a mile south-east of Waldo and was caught by the blade of the plow attached to the tractor.
State patrolmen stated that the body was dragged for approximately 675 feet while the driverless tractor circled the field three times, coming to a stop near the rear of the Gearhiser home at almost the identical spot where Mr. Gearhiser usually parked it.
He was plowing by himself and was working when his wife took him supper in the field at 5 o'clock, patrolmen said,. The family wasn't alarmed at first when they saw the tractor sitting in approximately the usual spot, but later his daughter, Barabara, investigated and found the body at approximately 7 p. m. about 40 feet from where the tractor stopped.

Wheels Hit Ditch

Patrolmen who investigated found he had been thrown from the tractor when the front wheels of the machine struck a small ditch in the field and changed the course of the tractor throwing the driver off.
Dr. E. H. Morgan, county coroner gave a verdict of accidental death.
Mr. Gearhiser was born March 26, 1894 in Waldo township to John and Mae Kreider Gearhiser and was married April 9, 1917 to Miss Hazel Ackley, who survives. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran church at Waldo.
