THE ACKLEY BUGGY STRUCK BY AUTO
G W Ackley Suffers an Injured Leg Saturday
G W Ackley, a young man residing south of the area, had a narrow escape from
serious or fatal injuries when an automobile collided with his buggy on the Gooding
Pike, east of Owens, about 10:30 O'clock Sunday night. The automobile was driven
by Robert McKinnes in passing the buggy, the fender struck one of the wheels
of the rig, throwing Ackley and a companion out. The horse started to run and
Ackley was dragged about fifty feet as a result of his right foot catching in
the lines, in some manner Ackley loosed himself and the horse continued his journey
for a couple miles.
The driver of the Auto stopped and brought the occupants of the rig to Marion,
the rig being located this morning Ackley's leg was badly bruised and strained.

Waldo O., June 30 (special)
Wallace Ackley, aged fourteen, son of Mr and Mrs Benjamin Ackley, residing
north of Waldo, was seriously injured about 5 O'clock Sunday evening as a result
of being run over by an automobile. His cousin, George w Ackley, a young man
about twenty years of age , had a narrow escape from serious injuries last Sunday
when an Automobile driven Robert McKinniss collided with his buggy on Gooding
Pike east of Owen.
Wallace Ackley was riding his Bicycle and rode out onto the Delaware Pike from
a cross road. In attempting to cross the main road to the right side, he was
hit by an auto going south. The owner of the machine is not known.
A sister of the boy, and other members of the family who were setting in the
front of their home and witnessed the accident, ran to him quickly as possible,
finding him lying unconscious in the road. The party in the automobile, who had
driven on a short distance, came back and after finding the boy was seriously
hurt, drove to Waldo to get Doctor B D Osborn. The lad was unconscious about
fifteen minutes. Upon examination the surgeon found he was badly bruised about
the head and limbs. It has not been definitely determined as to whether the
boy sustained internal injuries, but he has regained consciousness and is resting
quite easily today.
George Ackley who was injured last Sunday and his right leg was badly bruised
and strained on account of being dragged fifty feet when his horse started to
run, is able to be up and about his work again. He was baptized on 28 Jun 1914
