Two youths, Ewing Sowards, 19. of 1240 Canfield road, and Eugene Ackley, 18, of 747 Moxahala Ave. today are recovering after being overcome by smoke when clothing in a closet at the Ackley home became ignited Thursday evening.
Ackley was overcome and burned after he attempted to battle the flames. Sowards fell unconscious while trying to carry Ackley from the room. Born June 3, 1916, in Roseville, up until very recently she had been, employed: at Brighton Ice Cream on Maple Avenue, for the past 18 years. She was a member of Roseville Legion Auxiliary Post 71. '
Surviving are two daughters, Toodles Nicholson ,and Peggy Fouch, both of Zanesville; three sons, Richard Mauller of Flori­da, Jim Loterbaugh of Roseville and Victor Ackley of Kettering; 20 grandchildren; numerous great and great -great -grandchil­dren; four brothers, Alfred Ship­ley of Zanesville, Herschel Ship­ley of White Cottage, Bill Ship­ley of Roseville and Gene Ship­ley of Zanesville; two sisters, Glenna Rucker and Ruth Ann Pettit, both of Zanesville; sever­al nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Kay Campau of California. .
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jonah and Edith Sims Shipley; her husband, Gene Ackley; four brothers, Richard, Rodney, Carl and Don­ald Shipley; a grandson, Michael Dozer; and two great-grand­daughters, Faith and Courtney.
Calling hours' will be 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at William Thompson & Son Funeral Home, 5765 Gladstone Drive, White Cottage. Services will be held at, 11 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. Tim Patton officiating. Burial will be in Wesley Union Cemetery. She was buried on 4 May 2002 in Wesley Union, Zanesville, Muskingum , Ohio.³⁹⁹ Her Social Security Number was 273-12-6989 OH.
