Mr. Frid was just as wonderful in the second show. It was interesting to see the way he told the stories a bit differently in the 2nd show. During the show, he did readings of "Yma Dream", by Thomas Meehan, "A Considerable Speck" by Robert Frost, "Here There Be Tygers" by Stephen King, "inner City Mother Goose" by Eve Merriam, his own "Fridean Connections", "Reprise" by Eve Merriam, "Dead Call" by William F. Nolan, scenes of Caliban, from "The Tempest" and Richard III, from "King Richard III", "The Open Window" by H.H. Monroe (Saki), 3 more of his own - "Disconnected", "But Central, He's There!", and "Touch Tone Antics", "A Christmas Carol(update) by Gahan Wilson, "Resume" by Dorothy Parker, and last but not least, "The Tell-Tale Heart" by Edgar Allen Poe. "Yma Dream" was absolutely hilarious. Mr. Frid had such a wonderful way of using different voices for all of the many characters in this peace. I found "Here There Be Tygers" very interesting, due to the fact that the names of 2 of the characters were Mrs. Trask, and Kathy Scott. Of course Stephen King is known to be a DS fan. Another of my favorites was "The Open Window". I could just about picture him as the 15 year old girl in the story, the way he told it. I especially loved his own stories concerning telephones. Mr. Frid did another "Questions and Evasions" Session, and of course, they were totally different questions. He was asked if he would ever do another Fest, and he indicated that he had not ruled it out. He was just tired of them, and needed a break. When asked how he choose his stories, he said that others suggested things. He didn't really read fiction very much. One question asked about his greatest accomplishment, and he answered that it was in having stayed unmarried. We got in line again for the autograph session, though I had no more items to be autographed. I just wanted to be with my friends. When I got up there, Guy showed up, so I asked him to take a picture with Frid. I was allowed to go behind the table for the picture. (That's the one at the top of both pages.) After the show, we headed back to the hotel, and a group of 10 of us went up to our room. Rhonda ordered and paid for a couple of pizzas for everyone. I went down and bought Strawberry Margaritas for Nancy, Rhonda, and I. At one point, security knocked at the door, and asked us to quiet down. Obviously we were having too good a time. LOL!!! I don't think we were all that loud, but the door was open at that point. We closed the door, and tried to be a bit quieter. They never bothered us again, so I guess we were okay. The party lasted til about 2:00 am. Then, Nancy and I decided to watch TV and find out Tennesse and Syracuse football scores. (Nancy's husband told her not to talk to me about football, since we beat them in the first game of the season.) Tennessee won, and is now in 1st place in all the polls. Syracuse lost, unfortunately. We finally got to bed around 2:30. I had to get up at 6:00, because my flight out was at 8:35. Everything went fine until I got to St. Louis. It was about 15 minutes after flight time, when they finally boarded us. After being on board for about 30 minutes, they sent us all back to the terminal, because the cargo door wouldn't close. 30 minutes later, they had us back on the plane, and we took off about 1 1/2 hours late. I arrived back in Memphis safely. Then I only had a 1 1/2 hour drive left. I arrived home around 4:00 pm. It's great to be home. I had a great time and have some wonderful memories and lots of pictures. Mr. Frid seemed to have enjoyed himself as much as we enjoyed him. Hopefully, this will mean that he will want to perform more, and we'll get another opportunity to see him in the near future. Keep your fingers crossed. |
