Dark Shadows originally aired from 1966-1971 on ABC tv. Originally, it was a gothic soap opera, about the strange things that happened to the Collins family living on an estate known as Collinwood, in Collinsport, Maine. Soon, ghosts were haunting the family, and then a Phoenix joined the fun. The introduction of Jonathan Frid as Barnabas Collins, a 175-year old guilt ridden vampire, brought the show tremendous success. With it's alluring tales of Gothic mystery and supernatural intrigue, it became one of the most popular daytime series of all time.

It returned to tv with a revival series in 1991 starring Ben Cross as Barnabas Collins.

The Sci-Fi channel ran the original Dark Shadows through two complete times between 1992 and 1997. DS again left the air in September 1997. It is now scheduled to begin again on the Sci-Fi channel at 11:00 am Eastern time on January 4, 1999.

"My name is Victoria Winters. My journey is beginning, a journey that I hope will open the doors of life to me and link my past with my future. A journey that will bring me to a strange and dark place, to the edge of the sea high atop Widow's Hill . . .a house called, 'Collinwood'. A world I've never known with people I've never met. People who tonight are still only shadows in my mind, but who will soon fill the days and nights of my tomorrows." - Victoria Winters

I'm a huge Dark Shadows fan. I first began watching Dark Shadows as a kid in 1969, when I was 12. I quickly became addicted and waited anxiously for it every afternoon when I got home from school. I got home at 3:00 and it didn't come on until 4:00, so I didn't have to run home to see DS. I had to wait for it. I filled in the time the last year or so, by watching Strange Paradise.

I don't really remember much about what I saw on DS at first. The first thing I clearly remember was Gerard and Daphne possessing David Collins and Carrie Stokes. I loved all of it. When PBS started showing it in 1982, I got to see the beginning of the show. But they cancelled it about the time Sarah told Barnabas that she would never appear to him again. Years later I discovered it on Sci-Fi and started watching it from the 1897 storyline through the end. I started watching from the beginning again, but moved to a town without Sci-Fi before they got back to what I'd seen before. I finally got a neice, who gets Sci-Fi, to tape it for me, but by then they were almost back to the 1897 storyline. There are a couple of years in there that I have still never seen.

I've only been to one convention. I attended ShadowCon in 1983. I got to meet Jonathan Frid, John Karlen, Lara Parker, Kathryn Leigh Scott, and others. It was a dream come true. I hope I get the opportunity to go again someday.

Currently, my favorite things to do are hang out at the Dark Shadows On-line Museum, read the DS Bulletin Boards and mailing list and chat with all my new friends at #Dark_Shadows and #Collinwood on the Undernet.
