Previous site versionsThis site has provided a learning experience. As such, I've created several versions over the years. For those that are interested in an historical analysis, check out the progression. The older sites are opened in a separate browser window. Enjoy! Original: Hey, I had to start somewhere. We're talking no HTML programming experience at this point, just a desire to learn. Non-frames version: This was the first attempt. The content was developed at this point. Most of code was developed with Notepad. I went through several online tutorials to learn HTML. Frames version: My first use of frames and javascript. Some unconventional uses of javascript here with rollover text. At this point I started using Macromedia Dreamweaver. Flash version: Some fun stuff here. I'd like to spend more time using this software. A Flash web player is required from Macromedia. (I now develop in Flash MX at work. A more robust tool, but still could use more.) Tables version: I'm now using tables rather than frames and using the template feature in Macromedia Dreamweaver. Some difficulties arose updating old pages, from putting links into the template, and taking out frame specific code. But it was pretty fun having the software do the routine work. I've moved the older versions and graphics into separate folders. Text-only links version: (12/11/2000) I've recently removed the graphics and highlights from the left nav bar. The code was broken in IE5. Templates sure made the revision easy. Make the change in one place, and instantly the site has a new interface. Now there is the power of templates. (1/6/2001) I've replaced some .gif files with .jpg to reduce download time, and added more personal items on the Me section. (4/21/2001) I added the Me section to the left column (before it was only accessible from a link on the home page). Pictures are now displayed in a separate window. Before I've used "#" in the HREF attribute and then used "OnClick." I found that putting "javascript:newwindowcall()" in the HREF attribute keeps the current page in its scrolled position. This is especially nice for the Oregon Trail page. Current version:(5/25/2003) I replaced the blue for gray, improved location information, rearranged the left column. The "Me" section has been added to significantly over the last several years, and I've renamed it to "My personal stuff." Note on changes to old versions: In keeping the old versions, I've made a few changes. This is to integrate the old with the new. Originally, I'd been told GeoCities didn't support folders. I don't know whether was true at the time, but since I didn't know anything, I was very reliant on others. Thanks to Dave for helping out. I've since moved the previous versions into separate folders. I've also moved all the graphics into a graphics folder. All the versions point to the same graphics and resume, so I've edited the original links. I'm still using the same graphics I started with, so the versions still look the same in that regard. Testing and revisions took longer than I anticipated. There is always one different page, or one broken link, that needs to be tracked down and fixed.
