My Dickerson Family Line
(My sources were from Floyd Co. By Dr. Amos D. Woods.)
The Dickerson Family, originally from Pittsylvania County, Virginia. The family included Griffith Sr., Griffith
Jr., Moses Sr. and Obediah
. Between 1782 and 1787, they acquired land grants for approximately 2200 acres on the
West Fork of the Little River, three miles North of the present Floyd County
Courthouse.
I am sure that most of you have information on Griffith,Moses and Obediah. If not then write to me I have limited information myself.
Our family line begins with Moses Sr.
Moses Dickerson, Sr. (b. 1746 d. 3/23/1834)
married Jemima Sullivan (b. 1756 d. 5/26/1846); both are buried
in the Pine Creek Cemetery in Floyd County.
Frances Dickerson: m. Ambrose Bryant 23 May 1796, Montgomery Co. Va. this is all the

Moses Dickerson Jr.: Moses Jr. married Nancy
Reed on Sept. 28th of 1802. Their children were:
Polly (Mary) (b. 11/8/1803):
Jemima (b. 3/11/1806): She married Josiah Barnett and settled near Copper Valley in Floyd County. Some of their children were:
Early, moved to Iowa
Asa, married a Morgan
Josiah Jr., who married a Duncan.
Andrew (b. 5/9/1807): Married Mahilia Dodds. Later they moved to Indiana. Their sons were:
Floyd
Calvin
Both sons served in the Union Army during the Civil War. Their cousins in the Confederate Army captured both brothers, at one point.
Sarah (b. 2/28/1809): Married a Duncan, and settled in Carroll County, Virginia.
Morrel (b. 3/20/1811): Married Naomie Morricle. Their children were:
William, who served as a Confederate soldier through the Civil War
Harvey, married Octavia Simmons, and stayed near Floyd Co.
Eli, married a Jones;
Floyd, married Agee, they had 10 children.
Emeline, married a Hylton
Callahill, married a Hylton, and stayed near Floyd Co.
Humphrey (b. 10/9/1813): Died when he was young.
George (b. 5/25/1816): died on his way to serve in the Spanish/American War.
Elizabeth (b. 9/24/1818): Married Powhatan Williams, lived near Pine Creek, and had 7 children.
William T, married Albina Young
Henry, married Florence Young, they moved to St. Louis, MO
David, married Lina Spangler
Thomas, married Anna Saunders and settled near Salem, VA.
Dr. George, married Sarah Epperly, and moved to Texas
Demaris married Isaac Epperly
Manerva, married Capt. Darius W. Sowers.
Early (b. 8/17/1822): Married Susan Williams. Was a 2nd Lt. In the 54th Virginia Regiment, Company A. they had nine children:

Lafayette, married a Raines
from Pulaski Co. They had 5 Children:
Adrain, died when he was 21
W.H married Agnes Kersey,they have 3 children, Beatrice, Nell and Howard
Eulalia married P.H. Dickerson son of Elder James M. Dickerson. Lived in Richmond VA
Lillian married Carl H. Stuphin, in 1913. He was the son of Hon. J.A.L. Stuphin, they lived in Richmond.
Alma married Burnett Kersey, they had one child, Ruth Evelyn and lived near Willis.
J.K. never married.
Matthew, married Frances Dobyns. He was a judge for Floyd Co. Court. They moved to Bluefield W.Va. where he worked for the N&W Railway. They had six children:

H.M. married Alice Slusher. Moved to Elk Horn W.Va.and had one son.
H.W. married a Hale, and moved to Colorado.
H.A. married a Godbey, and moved to Limestone, TN. They had two sons:

C.L. married a Carter, and moved to Bluefield W.Va.
Julina, married E.L. Albright and moved to Elk Horn W.Va.
After the death of his first wife Nancy (d. 7/16/1823),
Moses Jr. would not remarry until, Early, the youngest child, 'could outrun
his stepmother'. His second wife was Elizabeth Wickham, and they had four
more children.
Amos (b. 5/16/1832): Married Polly Slusher. Served
during the Civil War, was the minister for the Primitive Baptist Church,
served two terms for Floyd County in the Virginia Legislature. They had
six children.

Coffee (b. ???): Married Catherine Graham. Some of their children were:

Polly (Mary) (b. 9/12/1812) Married Wigington Dickerson. They had several Children.
Michael (b. 2/20/1915): Married Catherine Craig, Daughter of Joseph and Mary (Townsly) Craig.
They had 12 Children:
Charles married Miss Silver and moved to TN.
Burdine (b. 11/17/1838 d. 10/15/1922): Married Nancy Sowers, daughter of David and Margaret Sowers. He served in the 54th Virginia Company A as a private, and then was promoted later to Capt. When his Uncle Andrew stepped down. Was captured at Preach Tree Creek 7/23/1864 and taken to Sandy Hook. (According to my Uncle Joe, Burdine was captured 2 times during the Civil War, one time he changed sides, and was captured again toward the end of the war). Burdine is buried at the Basham Graveyard near his old home on Floyd Road. Nancy died 10 yrs to the day earlier then Birdine. They had 11 children:

Kathleen Ione married 1st Stanley C. Pickle.They had four children.

John (b.4/21/1817) Married Frances Dick. They had ten children.
John held the office of Commissioner of Revenue for 20 yrs. He was well
known throughout the County. Some of their children were: William, Abner,
Joseph, Alma and Moses ( a prominent minister of the Brethren Church.
Andrew (b. 9/30/1826) Married Elizabeth Williams. . Andrew served as Capt. of the 54th Virginia, Company

Morrel (b.3/1/1824) Married Charlotte Jones. They had five children. Morrel died in MO.

Elijah (b. 1/11/1829) Married Demaris Williams (m.12/7/1848 Floyd County), he was seriously
injured in the campaign for Chattanooga in the Civil War, died later at
Kingston Confederate Hospital Barnesville, Ga. They had 5 children.
