Primer Congreso de Genealogía Puertorriqueña
"Encuentro Con Los Antepasados de Nuestra Tierra"
Conference was jointly sponsored by the Sociedad
de Genealogía Puertorriqueña (SPG), the Puerto Rican/ Hispanic Genealogical Society (PRHGS),
and the Hispanic Genealogical Society of New York
(HGSNY)
and dedicated to the memory of
Don Carlos Cianchini Anselmi
(1925-1998, QEPD)
Contents of the Photos:
Opening ceremony and welcome by the representative of the Honorable Sila María Calderón , Alcaldesa of San Juan, Sr. Eduardo Rivero Albino (Director of Economic Development and Tourism of San Juan)
Investiture and presentation of award to the eminent Dr. Ricardo Alegría as lifetime member of the Sociedad de Genealogía Puertorriqueña by Dr. Luís Rodríguez Medina, Presidente de la Sociedad Puertoriqueña de Genealogía.
Special dedication and award presentation to the much loved and respected genealogist, Dra. Estela Cifre de Loubriel, retired academic professor and genealogical investigator of the University of Puerto Rico for her untiring and selfless dedication to the preservation of the history and roots of the Puerto Rican people. (La Fundación del Pueblo Puertorriqueño, 7 books and 8th to be printed hopefully with all our friends' assistance) . Well-known and esteemed by all who knew her and of her, her work is a treasure of information for many a Hispanic genealogist. Doña Estela passed away Dec. 12, 1998. A great loss to all.
Presentation of award to Dr. Ursula Acosta, known as Uschi to her friends, well respected author of several books on genealogy and her often visited web page: Genealogy, My Passion and Hobby Long-time member of the Sociedad de Genealogía Puertoriqueña.
Our own Muertito Heaven's Padre José Antonio Oquendo Pabón, Pbro., STL. also known as "elpadre", priest, teacher and genealogist with almost 20 years of experience as he gives his workshops (in English and Spanish) in researching the Archivos Parroquiales of Puerto Rico.
For your understanding of the deteriorating condition of these treasures of our history, several photos examples from la parroquia de Toa Alta of the Libros de Bautismos and Matrimonios (elpadre is in some) are included here.
Lastly, a few shots of friends and participants at the conference. A special photo is one of our newly found prima, Gloria Pérez Ruíz, related to us in countless lines who found us, thanks to one of the stories about Muertito Heaven which appeared in the Boletín: Nuestra Herencia published by the Hispanic Genealogical Society of New York (HGSNY).
