John David Laughead (IL4) was born 1/6/1886 in Birmingham, Delaware Co., PA. He was raised on a farm on Bethal Road in Booth's Corner, PA (the house and barn still exist today). He and married Margaret McClintock were married 12/7/1909. She was born 12/7/1888 in Scotland. After they were married they lived in Ardmore, PA where John was employed by the Autocar Division of the White Motor Company. He eventually moved his family to Gladwyn, PA and founded his own business, The Merion Square Repair Shop, which he operated until his retirement in 1952. He was invloved in community affairs in Gladwyn during the war years and was one of the signers of the charter that established the Gladwyn Fire Company in 1942. He provided housing for an engine, took calls for the fire company, relayed messages to the police station, and called the firefightiung volunteers together befor the firehouse was built. Upon retirement, he and Margaret bought a farm and resided in Kintersville, PA. He died 4/2/1958, after a short illness, at Bryn Mawr Hospital in Bryn Mawr, PA. His funeral from the home of his daughter, Marion, in Gladwyne, PA. John was buried at Siloam Methodist Church Burial Ground in Boothwyn, PA. Margaret died 12/2/1986 at the Methodist Simpson House in Philadelphia, PA.
