Removing Stains from Clothing
To make white socks whiter, boil in water with a slice of lemon added.
To remove cosmetic stains from clothing, rug a slightly wet bar of soap into the stain. This works in many instances. However, if the stain remains, rub in regular liquid detergent and let set.
To help "set" the color in new cotton clothing, includeing blue jeans, soak in a few gallons of water contianing eitherone box of table salt or one gallon of white vinegar, NOT BOTH. This process should prevent fading.
To remove deodorant stains on you clothes, we hear that Chubs Baby Wipes can work wonders.
For removing rust from most delicate cottons and linens, moisten the stain with lemon juice and hold it over a pot of boiling water. Hopefully it will diasppear! Rinse with water and repeat as necessary.
For ring-around-the-collar, take a small brush and brush hair shampoo into the soiled collar before washing in the machine.
For zinc oxide stains in clothing, pretreat with any laundry product that contains enzymes and then wash as directed.
For removing mildew on clothing, make a paste of equal parts white vinegar and baking soda. Rub in and leave on for awhile, then wash as you normally would.
For fruit stains in clothing, stretch the stained area over a bowl. Then pour boiling water through it from several feet above stain. Use caution with boiling water splash.
DON'T use club soda to remove stains in men's expensive ties. Club soda works well for stain removal on many fabrics, but on ties it can blur the dyes.
For baby formula stains, put lemon juice on the stain and leave out in the sunshine for an exteded time. Sometimes it only takes a few minutes.
For chocolate stains, soak the clothing in cold water for at least a half-hour. Rub some detergent into the stain while it's still wet. Wash as directed
To remove blood in clothing, sometimes meat tenderizer can do the trick. Stretch the stained area over a bowl. Make a paste of meat tenderizer and cool water. Rub in and wait at least 15 to 30 minutes. Sponge off with cool water. Hydrogen peroxide also works in removing some blood stains.
