Experiments with silk. Coldpad method and KoolAid.

I decided to divide my dye experiments into wool and silk.
This will make the pages load quicker.
The first pictures are silk dyed with the coldpad method.

I took these pictures outside in different lights
because light can make a big difference in the color.

More KoolAid dyeing.

Jan.10,2006

I used silk hankies,caps,and
merino and unknown NZ wool roving.
I also took pictures of the finished samples with flash
and sunlight to see the difference.
Even in the sun some of the colors
did not show the true beauty of the dyes.
I dyed all the samples except the Changing Cherry useing this recipie.
1 package of KoolAid,1 cup of water,2oz(1/4cp)white vinegar.
It seems to work best if you empty the KoolAid
into a container then add the water and disolve the
powder first, then add the vinegar.
For the Changing Cherry I doubled the mix.

I used 1/2 oz of wool roving for this dye session.
I found that the wool and silk slurp up the color very fast.
That is how I got different shades on the silk hankies.
The first in the mix was the strongest color and
they got lighter as the dye was absorbed.
I think next time I will add more water and see if I can get more even colors.

To see how these spun up go to the next page.
SPINNING UP
