Mauldin is an English name that means one that came from the
mountains or monuments in Bedfordshire.
CAUTION: Some of the researchers of the Mauldin lines have used very poor scholarship. I have attempted to point out errors and inconsistencies where I have found them. Anyone using this information should be very careful about records coming from
individual research as much of this consists of undocumented
guesswork. Do not assume that Morman sources such as IGI and
Ancestral files are correct. Many of those sources have been
contaminated by sloppy research efforts. The sorting out of
Mauldins is further complicated by the fact that the Mauldins
moved frequently and used certain given names repeatedly.
1. WILLIAM MAULDIN born about 1809 in SC. William is possibly the son of John Mauldin whose estate is mentioned in the Orphans Court Records of St. Clair Co. AL on 3 Sep 1831. John was not a common name among the Mauldins and this John may be the same one who was in Lawrence Co. AL in 1830, Limestone Co., AL in 1820, and Edgefield Co., SC in 1810.
In 1868, a W.P. Mauldin sold land in section 34, township 12 range 5 east of Chickasaw Co., MS. This may be William. Also, in 1866 a J.H. Mauldin bought 2 acres in section 27 of the same township and range. This may be James Milton. There were
numerous other land dealings by J.H. Mauldin in and around the
town of Okolona, MS during the late 1860's and the early 1870's.
A William Mauldin married 30 Dec 1827 in St. Clair Co., AL to Eliza Hood. This may have been the same William.
no issue known.
William married 24 Jul 1828 in St. Clair Co., AL to Rebecca McClendon. She was born about 1806 in NC. In 1832, a Rebecca Mauldin bought land in Township 14, Range 1 of Blount Co., AL.

James Riley married 22 Mar 1869 in Oktibbeha Co., MS to Mary Elizabeth "Lottie" Caldwell, daughter of John K. and Susan W. Caldwell. She was born about 1851 in AL and died 31 Dec 1934 in MS. Her brother William was a pastor at Cedar Bluff, MS.

8. JOHN RICHARD "DICK" MAULDIN (James2, William1) son of James Riley Mauldin and Elizabeth Caldwell born Sep 1874 in MS, died 18 Dec 1934 in Benton, Yazoo Co., MS under suspicious
circumstances, and is buried in Hicks Cemetery.
John worked as a farmer, but never owned his own land. He did have horses and cows. He loved to read and would sit for hours with a kerosene lamp in one hand and a book in the other.
John married first on 9 Dec 1897 in Chickasaw Co., MS to Loudie E. Blanchett. (This name has yet to be verified. She is listed as Ludie Easter on Nellie Mauldin's death certificate, and in Nellie Mauldin's diary, that she started writing for her
youngest daughter Penney. She is listed as Blanchett on her
marriage certificate. Aunt Ethel and Nellie were summoned to
probate court when Nellie Mauldin was pregnant with Ted. Their
grandfather, James Blanchett, had killed his wife, then
committed suicide. The estate was to be split among the
children, but Ludie had already died. I have not yet found the
probate records, but a copy of the marriage license is enclosed
in the appendix.EDITORS NOTE>>>> PROBATE HAS BEEN FOUND - - IT IS INDEED BLANSETT) She was born Aug 1880 in AL.

e. Ethel Lee b. 1905 MS, m1. William "Oliver" Wilkerson, m2. Richard Winn Anderson "Pete" Gallaspy
Aunt Ethel tells of how J.R. married a second time to a "very precious woman" that had taken care of the children after Ludie died. She died only nine months after the marriage of "galloping consumption". I believe her to be Cynthia Howell, who married a J.R. Mauldin on 24 Feb 1901 in Chickasaw Co, AL.
John married third on 7 Jul 1912 in Chickasaw Co., MS to Levi Ann Elizabeth "Lizzy" Wooten. She was born about 1882 and died 14 Nov 1954 in MS. Lizzy's mother's maiden name was Davis.
