My first Todd Rundgren show. I was working at a record store in Tyson's Corner, VA, and the manager got us some tickets. It was festival seating so I got as close as I could, up in the balcony above stage left. I blinded Todd twice with my cheesy 110mm flash, but I have since apologized directly to him for it. His response? "No wonder I keep missing the toilet". Most memorable tumes: "Eastern Intrigue" and "Real Man". See "My TR Story" for more details.
Santa Barbara, CA, Arlington Theater...Road To Utopia...1980
I had called the theater the night before and asked if it was OK to bring a camera. "Sure" said some flunky whose name I never got. Of course when I got there the goon squad wouldn't let me in with it, so I went around back and walked right into the stage door. An official-looking fella (he had a clipboard) asked me where my pass was. I told him I needed to get some pics for the paper, and after a moment to size me up (in my official Pentax t-shirt) he gave me a note to get the cameras in. Thus it was that I got the best concert photos yet!
Santa Barbara, CA, Arlington Theater...Network...1982
The only time I've gone to a concert by myself...just because I HAD to see him again! I never got enough of that TR-i Stuff! Memorable Tunes: "Black Maria"
Berkeley Community Theater, Berkeley, CA...Ringo & The All-Starr Band..1999
My wife and I took in the show on a brisk evening in Bezerkeley. Todd only played three tunes: "Bang the Drum", "Hammer in My Heart", and ""I Saw the Light". Ringo did every top-ten tune he ever wrote, then Jack Bruce & Todd TORE THE PLACE UP on "White Room". Others played as well...Simon Kirke (Bad Company), Gary Booker (Procol Harum), and a fella named Timmy.
Slim's, San Francisco...Half-Twisted...6/9/1999
Finally got a chance to meet some of the folks from TRTV! Lia, Bash, Romo, John/451, Keiko, Q, and Turkeyboy. Got right up to the front with the hardcore fans. The first set was straight Rock n Roll, the best tune: "Black and White". Second set was the tiki numbers, with a tie between the Motown medley and a jazzed-up version of "Born To Synthesize". The band played for 3 hours, and we loved it all. Kaz is lookin' good, and Prairie Prince is gonzo as ever. The guys were obviously having fun.
The Power Trio Tour...Maritime Hall, SF, CA...June 11, 2000
Another small club...Rather nice, though my ears haven't stopped ringing & it's been 3 days now! The opening band, Keno, was a kinda "Green Day" clone, and the kid on lead could play some licks. (See if you can find his pic in this mix). TR & Kaz have great chemistry on stage, with K having to remind TR of some lyrics (senior moments in Rock History!) Loved the tune mix..."Worldwide Epiphany" stuck with me the whole next day. Said "Hi" to Roger Linder & his family, along with Lia and several other nice Toddheads. I have a total of 96 scans from this concert on Photo CD, so if you want a higher-res pic sent out to you, email me!
A Walk Down Abbey Road- Concord, CA June 28, 2002
Great Beatles tunes and a sprinkling of the bandmates' old chestnuts. "Hello It's Me" from TR, "White Room" and "Sunshine of Your Love" from Jack Bruce as well as the great stuff from Mark Farner, Christopher Cross (How'd HE get in there?) and Alan Parsons. They paid homage to the recent passing of John Entwhistle by doing a rockin' version of "My Generation". I took my two youngest kids, ages 8 & 12, and sure felt like a generation distant from them listening to the songs. The whole shindig had a county fair feeling to it, with the guys onstage having a good time and forgetting alot of lyrics. Couldn't help but get a little sentimental during "While My Guitar Gently Weeps". Too much Truth.
Jethro Tull & Fleetwood Mac...1979
Here are some other pics from the "snuck a camera in" collection. The toughest one was Fleetwood Mac; I had to hide the camera body in one sleeve of my parka, the lens in the other, and a monopod stand down my pants! "Is that a monopod in yer pants or are you just happy to see me?" Enjoy!
