The children given with X as part of their middle name may or may not be this Gaetano Colloraffi's children. From family oral tradition we know that these children had a father whose name was Gaetano.

Notes for G
IUSEPPA AMATO:
When Maria Teresa is married in 1898, her mother's name is given as Giuseppa Amato and she has died. Maria's age is given and she is listed as a seamstress.

OMENICO COLLORAFFI:
Domenico's profession is stated as a shoemaker on the birth record of his daughter, Maria Teressa.

Domenico and Giuseppa brought their family to 1882 Barnes Ave. Bronx, New York around 1900. My father, Domenico, his grandson, stated that his grandfather first came to the United States in the early 1880's, went back to Sant' Agata di Militello and then, two years latter, returned to the house that they had bought. We know that his daughter, Concetta was married in Sant' Agata Di Militello in 1896 and that she remained in Sicily.

Domenico is remembered as always having a cigar. He was a tall and handsome man and when asked what he did, he would reply that he "took care of his family" and that they took care of him. It is believed that his daughter, Giuseppa and her family lived with him in the Bronx, and owned the home when he died. Perhaps he bought it along with his daughter and her husband.

We find Domenico and his wife, Giuseppa, on the ship manifest for the Nord America that left Palermo and arrived in New York, on October 28, 1901. Domenico and Giuseppa brought their 3 year old grand daughter, child of Concetta, to the USA with them.

Notes for G
IUSEPPA ZINGALES BOTTA:
Giuseppa's last name, Zingales Botta, is sometimes spelled without the "s" in Zingales. This family has married into the Colloraffi family for several generations.

We see Giuseppa's name on the ship manifest for the Nord America, leaving Palermo and arriving in New York on October 28, 1901. Her and her husband brought their 3 year old grand daughter, Rosa, with them.

NTONINO COLLORAFFI:
The marriage record of Antonino Colloraffi, son of Biagio and Maria Ignazi is an important link from the Colloraffis of Sant' Agata Di Militello to the Collorafis in Patti. Giuseppe Collorafi also married into the Amato family. His mother in law is Teresa Amato. So, perhaps, there was communication between these two branches of the family in the 1870's and beyond. We see the age of Antonino and his father, Biagio, on his marriage certificate. He also signs his name. We have Antonino's brith certificate from the civil records of Sant' Agata Di Militello.

Notes for M
ARIA IGNAZI:
On her marriage record in Patti, we find Maria's age and the names of her parents.

43. GIUSEPPE10 COLLORAFFI (MAESTRO BIAGIO9, GAETENO8, BIAGIO7, PADRE6, ANTONINO5, DOMENICO4 CULLURAFI, PLACIDO3, DON2, COLOROFE1) was born May 24, 1847 in Sant' Agata di Militello, Sicilia. He married MARIA IGNACIA SCAFIDI, daughter of ANTONINO SCAFIDI. She was born 1856 in Sant" Agata di Militello, Sicilia.

Notes for G
IUSEPPE COLLORAFFI:
The information for this family comes from the civil records of Sant' Agata di Militello.

Notes for M
ARIA IGNACIA SCAFIDI:
Maria Ignacia Scafidi's age is stated in her daughter's birth certificate from Sant' Agata Di Militello. Her father is also mentioned is a birth certificate of one of her children. In the birth certificate of her son, Nunzio, we learn that her husband, Giuseppe, is a barber.

Children of G
IUSEPPE COLLORAFFI and MARIA SCAFIDI are:
  i.   MARIA11 COLLORAFFI, b. May 04, 1877.
  Notes for MARIA COLLORAFFI:
Information on Ellis Island shows that Maria came to the USA by way of Ellis Island in 1905, when she was 28 years old. She may have been married at the time since Italian women were recorded in ships' manifests, at the time, by their legal name - which is their surname. Her brothers Giuseppe and Carlo came through Ellis Island in 1906, the next year.

  ii.   TERESA COLLORAFFI, b. April 18, 1879; m. TRISUFO SUDOVICO, August 1903.
  Notes for TERESA COLLORAFFI:
The handwriting on the marriage record for Teresa is nearly unreadable. I am guessing at the name of her husband and it looks as if she were married outside of Sant' Agata because the "Annotiazione per Matrimonio" is on a seperate piece of paper in the clerk's records, but I cannot read where it was sent from.

More About TRISUFO SUDOVICO and TERESA COLLORAFFI:
Marriage: August 1903

iii.   BIAGIO COLLORAFFI, b. May 30, 1882, Sant Agata di Militello, Sicilia; d. August 30, 1883, Sant Agata di Militello, Sicilia.
  iv.   CARLO COLLORAFFI, b. December 04, 1886.
  Notes for CARLO COLLORAFFI:
From information in Ellis Island files, it seems that Carlo and his brother Giuseppe went to the USA by way of Ellis Island in 1906. He was 19 years old.

  v.   GIUSEPPE COLLORAFFI, b. August 05, 1890.
  Notes for GIUSEPPE COLLORAFFI:
Information from Ellis Island shows us that Giuseppe went to the United States, stopping at Ellis Island in 1906 at the age of 17. It looks as if Carol came with him.

vi.   ANTONINO COLLORAFFI, b. June 1892, Sant Agata di Militello, Sicilia; d. May 22, 1910, Sant Agata di Militello, Sicilia.
  vii.   NUNZIATO COLLORAFFI, b. December 08, 1896.
  viii.   CARMELA COLLORAFFI, b. March 08, 1901.
  Notes for CARMELA COLLORAFFI:
On her birth record, a Gogliano comes forth as a wittness. He is 33 years old. My father thought that his Uncle Vincenzo was married to a Gogliano.

44. VINCENZO10 COLLORAFFI (MAESTRO BIAGIO9, GAETENO8, BIAGIO7, PADRE6, ANTONINO5, DOMENICO4 CULLURAFI, PLACIDO3, DON2, COLOROFE1) was born January 30, 1861 in Sant' Agata di Militello, Sicilia, and died in USA. He married ROSA CERRITO. She was born 1863 in Sant Agata di Militello, Sicilia.

Notes for V
INCENZO COLLORAFFI:
Vincenzo's oldest child is named Antonino Biagio. Because of this, I assume that Vincenzo is the son of Biagio and Maria Teressa. Biagio would be from the father, and Antonino from a brother who died as a child. Out of respect, the oldest son is often named for a family member who died, and this would be in keeping with that tradition. The birth record in Sant' Agata identifies this Vincenzo as the son of Biagio and Maria Teresa. However, my father thought that Vincenzo's wife's maiden name as Gogliano. He could have been wrong, or Rose may have died. We do know, that in the birth record of his brother, Giuseppe's youngest child, Carmela, a Gogliano comes forth as a wittness. This Gogliano is 33 years old. Vincenzo is listed as a tailor on his children's birth records. My father said that his Uncle Vincenzo lived in Erie, Penn., USA. I have great doubts that this is true, and suspect that he returned to Sant' Agata di Militello and may have been the Vincenzo Colloraffi, who served as mayor at the turn of the century. I have no evidence that any other part of this family, other than Domenico, son of Biagio, stayed in the USA.

Notes for R
OSA CERRITO:
Rose's age is listed on the birth records of several children. It is interesting that a Biagio Cerrito is the mayor of Sant' Agata Di Militello around 1898 and that Rose's husband, seems to be the next mayor of the city. This family also marries into the Regalbutto family - related to the Colloraffi family through the Modica family.

Children of V
INCENZO COLLORAFFI and ROSA CERRITO are:
  i.   BIAGIO ANTONINO11 COLLORAFFI, b. April 16, 1885, Sant' Agata di Militello, Sicilia; d. July 25, 1898, Sant' Agata di Militello, Sicilia.
ii.   CICCIUA COLLORAFFI, b. June 15, 1889, Sant' Agata di Militello, Sicilia.
iii.   ELVIRA COLLORAFFI, b. October 21, 1890, Sant' Agata di Militello, Sicilia.

45. PIETRO10 COLLORAFI (ROSARIO9, GIUSEPPE8, BIAGIO7 COLLORAFFI, PADRE6, ANTONINO5, DOMENICO4 CULLURAFI, PLACIDO3, DON2, COLOROFE1) was born 1826 in Patti, Sicily, and died July 18, 1898 in Patti, Sicily. He married FEBRONIA MAGGARI. She was born in Patti, Sicily.

Notes for P
IETRO COLLORAFI:
I believe that this is the family that Pietro belongs to, even though, on his death certificate, his mother's last name is given as Gambino. On his son, Antonino's death record, in the civil records of Patti, his profession is given as a spinner.

Notes for F
EBRONIA MAGGARI:
I am guessing at the spelling of the name of the wife of Pietro. The handwriting on the death certificate is very difficult to read. The names of his parents are listed. His name and that of his wife, are on the marriage certificate of his son, Rosario. On the death record of her son, Antonino, her profession is given as a spinner.

Children of P

Caterina's profession is listed as a spinner on her marriage certificate which also lists her parents' names and her age.
