53. DOMENICO10 COLLORAFI (GIUSEPPE9, BASILIO8, GIUSEPPE X7, PADRE6 COLLORAFFI, ANTONINO5, DOMENICO4 CULLURAFI, PLACIDO3, DON2, COLOROFE1) was born November 08, 1847 in Vallone Vina, Sicily. He married ANNA PIZZINO May 17, 1876 in Sant' Angelo, Sicily, Italy, daughter of GIUSEPPE PIZINO and CARMELA CASSETA. She was born 1856 in Sant' Angelo, Sicilia.

We know a little bit about the life of Domenico and Anna from their great-grand daughter, Guiseppa (Josie) Collorafi Biviano from Australia. She is the daughter of Vincenzo, son of their son, Guiseppe. She tells us that Domenico provided for his large famiy by cultivating hazlenuts which he sold to a local exporter. They also grew chestnuts. The family owned a mill, "where the locals would take their grain to be ground into flour for a fee and a pound or two or flour. In those days," Josie wrote, "I suppose they had very little needs."
      She continued, "I visited this farm area, which is now overgrown with bramble bushes and weeds. This land was left to Dad and his brothers and sisters. Other divisions of this land was left to my grandfather's brothers and sisters, but over the years, some have sold their share..."
      Josie also told us about this family, "As you know it appears my grandfather, Guiseppe, was one of twelve children. As far as Dad can remember, these are the names and some accurate but not complete details...
Firstly, my Dad and his father were born in a town called Vallone Vina (translated it means valley of the vines.) San Piero Patti is between Vallone Vina and Librizzi...In Librizzi lived my grandfather's brothers, Michaelangelo, Tindaro and Carmelo. In Vallone Vina lived my grandfather Guiseppe, his sisters Fibronia and Sarina, his brothers Alberto, Michele, Pietro and Basilo. His sister, Guiseppina, lived in Palermo, and his sister, Carmela, dad can't remember.
Michaelangelo married Anna Mondello. Their children were Antonino and Domenico. Tindaro married Giuseppina Matelo. Fibronia married a Giovannino, children Angelina (married Antonino - Sabrina's son), Antonino, Leandro (married Sarina's daughter Anna) and Domenico. Alberto never married. Pietro married Angelina ( Collorafi) children Domenico, Carmelo, Micheleangelo, Anna. Basilio married a French woman called Erena. Dad thinks they had no children. They lived in France. Sarina married Giovannino Buzzanco, children Antonio, Anita, Domenico, Maria. Guiseppe (my grandfather) married Guiseppina Molletta, children Domenico, Anita, Rosina, Carmela, Vincenzino, Carmelo, Concettina, Basillo. Guiseppina married Guiseppe (a police officer in Palermo) children ?
Carmela nobody knows what?"
      Domenico's age is provided through his birth record from the civil records of Librizzi. On his marriage record, his profession is given as a landowner. We know his age and his parents names from both his birth record and marriage record from the civil records of Librizzi. His mother is referred to as "Donna Giuseppa", which is a sign of respect usually given to nobility of some sort. On the birth records of his many children, his profession is listed as a farmer.

Notes for ANNA PIZZINO:
Descendants of Anna gave the spelling of her name as Pizzino, but it is spelled Pizino in the birth records of her many children. On the birth record of daughter, Maria Catena in 1887, Anna's profession is given as a filatrice, which means spinner. How this dear lady had time to spin, with so many children, is difficult to imagine. D. H. Lawrence provides a discription of a woman spinner of Sicily, which I have put in this Collorafi family history. Her birthplace is given by a grandson, Mario Collorafi, son of Anna's child Tindaro.

We learn about Pito, which is probably the nickname for Pietro from the civil records of Librizzi, when his son, Francesco is born. We learn his age and the names of his parents.

It is interesting to see how the spelling of this name changes. It is first spelled with one f by the grandfather Pietro. He moves to Sant' Agata di Militello and it is spelled Colloraffi. Santo, his son, moves back to Librizzi and it is with one f, and then the grandson, Francesco's name is spelled very wrong on the birth record of Librizzi - Collofi!

Notes for ROSARIO COLLORAFI:
Both the handwriting and ink are poor in the marriage record of Carmelo. My best guess is that it says that his father is named Rosario and is dead. His mother's name is written and unreadable, as is their places of residence. This requires more research, if possible. I have guessed that he should be placed with these parents due to his age and the names in this family.

Notes for GIANNO:
It is impossible to read the first name of Rosario's wife in the two birth listings in San Piero Patti. This last name also marries into my branch of the family in Sant' Agata di Militello.
