Charter

We believe that Jesus Christ is Lord. Through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, the prayers and dedication of faithful believers, the has called us to be a part of his body, the Church. We covenant with Christ and with one another:

• To worship the Triune God through proclaiming the Word and administrating the sacraments,
• To enrich our Christian lives by faithfully studying and teaching the truths of Holy Scripture,
• To follow Christ's command that we love one another by providing an open, caring, and nurturing fellowship,
• To seek unity among alll those who claim Christ as Lord,
• To share the good news of salvation through witnessing and serving the needs of our brothers and sisters in this community and the world, and
• To follow the doctrine and practices of the Moravian Church as determined by its unity Synod.

In response to the love, service, and gifts which we have received, we commit ourselves to seek and serve our Lord Jesus Christ trusting in the guidance of the Holy Spirit.

Watchword for 1997

We declare to you what was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the word of life

This life was revealed, and we have seen it and testify to it and declare to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us

We declare to you what we have seen and heard so that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with uthe Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.

Basic Description of the Moravian Church

The Moravian Church is an ancient evangelical Protestant Christian Church which confesses Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Our organized beginning was in 1457 in what is now the Czech Republic, with our name being taken from the region of that country called Moravia.

Today, the witness of the Moravian Church has spread to across the globe. Our worldwide membership is around 720,000. We believe the Bible to be the inspired Word of God. The best expression of our life and faith is found in our motto, "In essentials, unity; in non-essentials, liberty; in all things, love."

Chief Doctrines of the Moravian Congregations

1. The Moravian Church as a part of the Body of Christ affirms the chief doctrines of our common faith as follows:
   • The doctrine of the Holy Trinity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, in whose name we are baptized.
   • The doctrine of God, the Father Almighty, the Maker of heaven and earth, and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
   • The doctrine that Jesus Christ came in human form and dwelt among us and that he gives to all who believe in him the power to become the children of God.
   • The doctrine that the Holy Spirit works within us and enables us to know the truth.
   • The doctrine that God, through Christ, visits and redeems his people; as Jesus himself promised, "I will come again."
2. The Moravian Church administers the sacrament of baptism for both children and adults. While it practices baptism by the pouring or sprinkling of water, the Moravian Church does not dispute other forms of baptism as practiced throughout the Church universal.
3. The Moravian Church invites all baptized Christians to join with it in celebrating the Lord's Supper. Following instruction, baptized children may receive communion.
4. The Moravian Church embraces the doctrine of the priesthood of all believers, but maintians an ordained ministry of both men and women for administering the sacraments.
5. The Moravian Church, founded in 1457 and renewed in 1727, believes that it was called into being for the purpose of proclaiming the Godd News that God in Christ reconciled the world to himself.
6. The Moravian Church believes hat it should go into all the world, even into the earth's remotest bounds, whenever and wherever its Lord calls and doors are opened. Today the Moravian Church is found in many lands and among many people of many tongues.
7. The Moravian Church holds that all believers are brothers and sisters in Chirst.
8. The Moravian Church "awaits the appearing of Jesus Christ, goes forward to meet its Lord with joy, and prays to be found ready when he comes."
