DOG TRAINING
Simple as ABC

Dax
In loving memory of Heather Highland's Mr. Dax CD
It was a joy to be owned by this wonderful dog!

CONGRATULATIONS!! You are here because
A) You have a new puppy
B) You finally decided your dog needs training
C) You would like to start the lifetime relationship with your dog on the right "paw!"

Well, whatever your reason, it's a good one! Actually you've already completed your first lesson! Now wasn't that easy? The fact you WANT to train your puppy or dog is the first step in dog training. So let's get started!

The way we train our dogs has changed considerably from years ago. There is no more "snap and jerk" on metal colors...no more harsh words...no more slapping under the chin for barking or growling. IF you happen to be looking into training classes for your puppy or dog, please, please ask if the method used is positive training. If it isn't, run the other way and find a trainer who uses only positive methods. This involves luring your dog into the sit or down, etc. with treats...using a "marker" (more about that later) such as a clicker or a word such as YES! Positive training uses lot's of praise and encouragement and never harsh words. We will teach the dog that doing the right thing gets rewarded and you will learn how to re-direct a dog when he's doing the wrong thing.
The knowledge you are about to receive is my "gift" to you and your pet. The following lessons have been acquired over many years of having dogs, reading many training manuals, putting theories in practice, observing other trainers, teaching obediance classes, and working and showing my own dogs. My goal is to teach you to have a better behaved pet so you will both enjoy being with each other for many years to come. My motto is

"Teach With Love."
Good luck and happy training!
