Clearfield County, Pennsylvania

The county seat, Clearfield originated as an Indian town, "Chinklacamoose", and was incorporated as a borough in 1840. The name was derived from the vast fields once cleared of undergrowth by buffalo wallows.

Formed from Lycoming & Huntingdon Counties in 1804.
