List Guidelines
It is my strong desire that the POEM list have a congenial & friendly atmosphere that is considerate of all list members. We want everyone to feel comfortable posting. | Our three main guidelines: Civility Tolerance Fun |
The purpose of this message is to set forth the List Guidelines in more detail.
1. BE CIVIL - If every message to the POEM list is civil, then almost any problems that come up can be easily dealt with. Being civil includes being polite and being considerate of others. In general, treat others as you would want to be treated. DON’T FLAME! (For those of you who may be new to all of this, the word "flaming" means personally attacking or insulting someone). Please remember to hesitate before you post, to avoid posting in anger. Disagreeing is OK, but we want to avoid flaming.
2. BE CONSIDERATE OF OTHER MEMBER’S TIME AND COSTS- Only quote relevant portions of the message to which you are responding. Repeating the entire original message increases download time and costs for many of our members and it is tedious to read a message a second, third, and fourth time. Another way of being considerate is to reply privately to messages when your reply may not be of general importance to the whole group. Also please, include e-mail address with your signature at the bottom of your post, since not everybody can get headers with their messages.
3. STAY ON THE TOPIC - Generally, please try to stay "in the general vicinity" of the topic. If someone posts something off-topic, minimize continuing the discussion on the list - use private e-mail. Friendships are created through this mode of communication and we want you to share your triumphs, or tribulations - these are more than welcome - since sometimes list members can become like an extended family! If topics go astray and *if* I see fit - I will redirect to matters at hand.
4. DON’T INFRINGE ON COPYRIGHTS AND TRADEMARKS - POEM list does NOT condone the exchange of copyrighted or trademarked material without the written consent of the copyright/trademark holder. If this happens, the materials will be removed from the archive and the poster will be told why.
5. PLEASE POST DESIGN ATTACHMENTS TO THE LIST - even though these attachments will come through as gibberish to our digest subscribers and will need to be decoded. Procedures for decoding these attachments are available. Design attachments need to be your own work only, and will be archived as the posters original design. When posting a design, please include the word ATTACH in the subject line. This makes it easier for all members to search the archives.
6. BE TOLERANT OF MISTAKES AND TOLERANT OF NEWCOMERS - Everyone subscribing to the POEM list was once new to Internet mail. When newcomers join the POEM list, many may be unaware of list netiquette and may inadvertently not follow these guidelines. Let us all be tolerant of these types of innocent mistakes. Most of us still make mistakes (I know I've made my share). If you are a newbie to the Internet, check out these sites to help you with the acronyms:
World Wide Web Acronym and Abbreviation Server
7. Please leave moderating of the POEM list to me. - I’ll try to be on the ball and here every day. I want the POEM list to be a warm, friendly place where everyone feels welcome. Since I am responsible for moderation, this allows you to sit back, prop your feet up, read your mail, and let me do the dirty work! If you see a post that runs afoul of these guidelines, know that I usually post privately to the originator. My intent is not to publicly humiliate someone. Just because you don't see it addressed on the list doesn't mean that I haven't taken care of it. If you do have feelings/views about a post or the guidelines, feel free to drop me a line and let me know - your input is always appreciated, and I practice an open door policy.
8. If you have questions - about how to subscribe or unsubscribe, changing to digest, or other questions about your subscription, please visit the Quiltropolis web interface. The address is posted below. If after visiting the interface you still have questions, please drop me a line rather than posting them to the list. Posting them to the list will only delay the response and probably won't do much to accomplish what you are trying to do!
9. And, most of all, I hope you HAVE FUN. - The POEM list is meant to be a place to learn, to gain and provide information, and to enjoy yourselves. If what we're doing here isn't enjoyable, then it probably isn't worth doing. We encourage you to take part and to share your embroidering experiences.
Please e-mail me, Sharon Grissom (list owner) with any questions or
problems.
Welcome aboard and Thank You for joining the POEM list!
