Linda's Crafty Chronicles

November 2004

Hello everyone and welcome to a new issue of my newsletter. I took some time off to deal with the changes in my life. I'm learning to deal with challenges in different ways. One of these challenges is putting out my newsletter again. Right now my goal is to either publish quarterly or semi-monthly. Besides working full-time I have decided to finish my BS degree so I am doing that full-time also. I decided that I need to focus on my crafts as a detraction from work and college. As a result, I have created several patterns for your enjoyment. I still have my charity going for Steven's Comfy Toes and Cyndy's Tiny Tootsies. As a result, most of the patterns for this issue are for slippers.

As I am typing this the clouds full of snow are descending on my home. I live on the side of a mountain and have been watching the clouds outside slowly come down lower on the side of the mountain. As a result I can see the rain slowly change to snow as the temperature goes down. The cool and cold weather makes me long to bake all day while having a pot of soup cooking on the stove. It's a little late in the afternoon to start soup from scratch (the best kind) but not too early to think about getting out the crock pot to have some for dinner after work tomorrow evening. The recipes for this issue will deal with soups and stews to warm these chilly days and nights.

I have also taken up scrapbooking the past few months but don't always have time to do as many pages as I would like. The problem with starting after your children are grown is where to start? I am going to have a section devoted to scrapbooking and rubber stamping since I love to make my own greeting cards also. As I get time I will include links to photos of some of my projects as well as some instructions too.

Free Patterns

For this issue I created several slipper patterns. Most are knit and one is crochet. In my Slipper Boot pattern I incorporated those new eyelash yarns for a fuzzy top. For those that are new to knitting or crocheting I created a super simple pattern for slippers that are great for a beginner or someone that wants a pattern that works up quick and easy in knit or crochet.

Want to make some winter warmers for your holiday tree this year and love to knit? Here is a great idea for you tree and a garland to help display your cards. Crochet a chain the lengths that you need for displaying your cards or go a garland. Now knit or crochet up a few of my beanie baby patterns for sweaters, scarves, hats, mittens and attach to the garland with tiny clothes pins. In between the clothes you can add extra clothes pins for attaching your greeting cards.

Warming Recipes

Some of my favorite foods when it is cold are soups and stews. Add a hot crusty roll and I'm in heaven. With busy lives it's hard to have a hot home cooked meal without a little help. I love crock pots and slow cookers. Their great for cooking a roast and veggies or a hot and hardy pot of stew. Here are a few recipes for those cold nights that you need something to warm your family with. Winter Soups

Scrapbooking and Card Making

I love creating cards and almost anything involving paper whether it is greeting cards, a scrapbook page, ornaments, origami, or a journal book. I am going to include links to projects that I enjoy making. I am hoping to eventually have time to make some of my own to post for the newsletter.
