Fresman Year
Warsaw paper..... Manchester Squires You can read Whitko's preview and substitute it for Manchester's. Like Whitko, Manchester has a first-year varsity volleyball coach, Jessica Tate. Like Whitko's coach, Tate knows her players. She, too, was the junior varsity coach the last two years. Middle hitter Jodie Peden and setter Megan Eckert are two key returners for the Squires. Freshman hitter Jessica Hicks and back row player Natalie Stambaugh also figure to contribute. "These are girls I had my first year on junior varsity, and we have been pretty successful the last couple of years," Tate said. "We're excited." Manchester went 7-24 overall and 0-7 in the Three Rivers Conference last year. The Squires lost to Wabash in the first round of the sectional. Tate hopes to find girls who take the team by the scruff of the neck and point it in the right direction. "Just letting our leaders come out naturally is important," she said. "We had a problem with that last year, finding leaders. We have good leaders. We're trying to speed up our offense and lower our sets and passes to create problems for the defense. That's the main thing we've been stressing, that and communication." Erin Groombridge, Carrie Rodriguez, Katie Zile and Tracie Hart graduated last year. Manchester's 1997 season opens with a Monday match at Maconaquah.

This is her first love. She has played the sport since 1st grade. Last year her 8th grade team won our local Wabash County Tourney. There are 4 high schools in our county, Manchester, Northfield, Southwood and Wabash. The team only had 8 members, as we are a small school. Her goal is to be part of an Indiana State Champion!

1997-1998 SOFTBALL

She has played softball for 6 years, and T-ball for 3 years before this. The past 2 years she has playd for a 18 year old and younger fast pitch team. She has been the starting pitcher for the team for the whole time she has been on the team. This summer's team came in first during the season and 2nd in the tournament. She now plays for the High School, the varisty team, her 3rd sport as a Freshman!First Federal is the name of her summer softball team, and my wife and I both coach the team.

Well now you can football to her sports. She had a football game tonight against the seniors. It was flag football. She played quarterback, and threw a touchdown pass. Her team lost 7-6. She also rushed the quarterback and tipped one pass. It looked like she had a great time, as did all the girls. This was on 10/7/97.

Just as important as sports is her school work. I am very please to report that Jessica made the honor roll with all A(s) and B(s)! With all the effort she puts forward with the sports she still makes the time to study and it shows! 2nd nine weeks, she made all A(s) and B(s) again! The 3rd 9 weeks she again made all As and Bs!
