She wasn't sure what it was she had seen. It was just a movement; a flickering of a leaf that didn't match the wind flow. She moved on over to the large trunk where what ever it was wouldn't see her and began sharpening her claws.
| It took her several strokes on the rough bark of the tree, but satisfied that she had them honed to sharp points, she finished the job
|
and began to slink around the tree to see if she could slip up on what ever it was that caused the movement she had seen earlier.
|
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.......! There was something there and she froze in position, peering around behind the tree for some time, not moving a muscle.

Ms Kitty's eyes were big and her curiosity was piqued but she remained frozen studying the little creature.
|
Because what she saw had been a brown lizard! And NOW it was a GREEN lizard. As she watched it, it slipped over from the brown leaf it had been hidden on to a patch of green grass and, right in front of Ms Kitty's eyes, it gradually turned from brown to green and blended in with the grass.. and the next moment it disapeared in the grass; probably had a hole there somewhere. This lizard is a specie of Chameleon known for it's ability to change its color to match its background..

I had a picture of a Chameleon taken on the side of my shed and the scan I had of it was apparently lost when my old computer turned toes up so to speak and I had to improvise with this drawing. When I find that photo I will rescan it. By the way; people who outwardly change their character to fit someone they are trying to impress, are referred to as Chameleons; they are also referred to as 'two faced.' I can't remember the exact words, but Shakespear referred to this type of persons as 'glass faces' meaning they tried to 'mirror' the person they were talking to in order to be accepted by them. For people, it is not a good trait. One must be ones self and earn acceptance for their own goodness, not for what they want others to think they are.
Well, to go on.. Ms Kitty looked and looked and scratched and sniffed around where she perceived the Chameleon had disapeared but couldn't locate it. She gave up and upon looking up the hill towards the neighbors, she spied her arch-enemy, Patches, watching her.
