As mentioned before, Ms Kitty never learned to play with strings, balls or other things that a kitten gets to play with and of course I want to teach her to play at least a little. Even most adult cats, as well as adult human beings, still have a bit of "child within" that enables them to see and appreciate the wonders of this world and to look at new sights and things with wonder, curiosity and delight. I wanted to help Ms Kitty to find her "child within." Most cats, dogs and little children love balls.... so why not Ms Kitty>??
The smiley face below is a scan of Ohmar, a plush ball that was my great granddaughter's toy. When it is squeezed, struck or thrown and hits the floor or what-ever, it chortles, similar to the giggles of a small child.
I should have left her alone but I had to be smart and try to make her more curious so I took the ball and squeezed it real hard to make it giggle and rolled it toward her. Her eyes went twice their normal size
and she took off through the house as fast as she could go

to my bedroom at the other end of the house. She thought it was some kind of monster. The sound of it really frightened her.
I went to comfort her and she refused to have anything to do with me. When Ivan opened the solarium door she skittered into the solarium as if the "Monster" was after her. She remained in solitude refusing any comfort a big part of the day. I felt awful. A whole year gaining her confidence and I figured that because of a bit of impatience in wanting to teach her something I may have lost all credibility with her. Would she ever trust me again? I finally enticed her to the door, but all she would do was smell the threshold and refused to come in. I had placed the ball on a side table but having handled it several times, it's scent was on my hands. I had to hide the ball and wash my hands again and finally she came in. She still didn't trust me.
