WILD FLOWERS OF EAST TEXASPage 13A small collection of plants found by Leona Halley Henderson |
PURPLE HORSEMINT, Lemon Beebalm or Monarda citriodora I nearly waited too long to pluck this as it is about to go to seed. There was only one in the garden and it was crowded in amongst vinca, petunias, Echinacea, and others and had to really struggle to get to the top of the heap to get some sun. Normally the stems are quite erect, but this one was curled all around trying to get through so looked almost like a vine! I hope to grow some more unless I learn that they are too invasive... might just do it anyway ; )
