Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind. They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart. Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together.... Author unknown
Trouble was our first kitty. We weren't planning on getting any cats, but in the back of my mind I missed having a cat. About two weeks before Christmas in 1989, I went to my Mom's. Someone had given her three 3 month old kittens. While I was there, this little black and white furball kept meowing and cuddling up to me. He immediately stole my heart. I took him home that very day, knowing that Bob would not be happy about it. I told Bob that he was "just visiting" for the holidays. At first we weren't going to name him because he was "just visiting". Then after a few days, Bob named him Trouble. The entire time Trouble was with us Bob insisted that we shouldn't get too attached because he wasn't staying. When the holidays were over I started getting Trouble and his toys packed up to take back to my Mom's. I was feeling sad and defeated because Bob hadn't given in. Then much to my surprise and delight, Bob gave in. Trouble had stolen Bob's heart too. That was just the beginning of our cat adventures.
On August 19, 1999, Trouble passed away in our arms of a heart attack. He was only ten years old, but had been suffering with Pancreatitis for two years. Moments before his heart attack, he had jumped up onto Bob's lap to do one of his favorite things. Lick out the ice cream bowl. Suddenly, he fell over onto the floor and within five minutes, he was gone. His passing came as quite a shock to us because he seemed to be feeling better than he had in months. Sometimes I still think I hear him meowing very loudly in the kitchen at 4:00 A.M., telling me he's hungry and that I should get up to feed him. We buried him in my parents flower garden with a cross inscribed with his name. Trouble has been gone for quite some time now, but the love he gave us will never be forgotten. He was a very special part of our family. |
