John Pope Ivess Born 1817 Askeaton, Ireland. John Pope Ivess was the son of Patrick and Jane Ivess. Most of the details recounted here have been researched from old documents and family history. Some of the details are by necessity only presumed to be accurate. John's first wife was Anne Southwell. Married in Askeaton 1839 they produced several children. July 1847, Rathkeale, Limerick, Ireland; d. 1923, Greytown, New Zealand. ANNIE IVESS, b. 1849, Dublin, Ireland; d. 4 July 1942, Wellington, New Zealand. LUCY IVESS, b. 1850, Dublin, Ireland; d. Windsor, Victoria, Australia; m. ? HORAN, , Australia; ALBERT IVESS, b. 1852, Dublin, Ireland; d. 1852, Dublin, Ireland. The story tell that John was a policeman and escorted one of the last convict shipments to Australia. We can find no confirmation of this in the records. we do know however that he was in Melbourne Australia in 1853. John married Ann Cullen a transported convict who was working as his housekeeper, in 1857 at St Kilda, Melbourne Victoria. ALBERT IVESS, b. 1864, Maldon, Victoria, Australia; d. 1972, Maldon, Victoria, Australia. John Pope Ivess died in Maldon Victoria in 1865 at the age of 48. His grave is located near the front of the pioneer section of the Maldon Cemetery. See pictures below. He shares the grave with Wife Ann, (1874) & sons Charles (1876) & Albert (1876).
