"YES", I answered rather abruptly. The man showed me the magazines and I took them just to get rid of him!! Horrible, wasn't I!!! After a few days, I actually sat and read the articles and really enjoyed them, thinking "I'd really like to get some more of these, I hope he comes back again." But, he never did. I probably scared him away!!! Anyway, the routine of the world soon put my attentions elsewhere and I forgot all about them.
Probably a couple of years later, my eldest son had started primary school, and I joined the Safety House Committee. It just so happened that the President of the Committee was one of Jehovah's Witnesses. I can still remember my initial reaction when she told me who she was. I thought (disappointedly) "Oh, I thought we could have been good friends." Silly, hey!! I'd never even really heard of Jehovah's Witnesses before. (I didn't realise they were the ones who had left me the magazines!) Well, we did become good friends, and her love for the bible and the joy she had in the ministry and at meetings got me curious. I had to find out just what this book had that could make someone so happy in life. So I picked one up one day and tried to read it.
Well, I got to all the begats and gave up!!! I couldn't understand it. So I told this friend of mine that and she offered me a study. Of course I accepted, and soon I was begining to experience the same joy she had. I was on the path that leads to life and three difficult, persecution-filled years later, I was baptised. I finally came to know just what that joy she had was - it was "the knowledge of God". (Proverbs 10:22)
