Armadillos
The armadillo is the official small mammal of Texas. It is a nine-banded animal about 2 1/2 feet long and 12-17 pounds. Armadillos have poor hearing and eyesight, which is why they are often seen along roadsides through the state. They do have an excellent sense of smell which helps them find food.
