PROJECTS |
A new project is being undertaken targeting street children of the city. An agreement has been entered into by the Hope Foundation of Rtn. Jerry Eaton with RC Tacloban wherein identified street children will be given nutritious meals through a Pesos 40,000 (about $1,000) donation from the said foundation.
SISTERHOOD AGREEMENT
The Board of Directors during its 11th regular monthly
meeting approved a resolution to enter into a sisterhood agreement with
the Rotary Club
of Scarborough Beach D-9450 Western Australia through the efforts of
Rtn. Gordon Webster and PP Butch Celestial.
TREE PLANTING
A special project started last year to plant trees
along the main city highway leading to the airport to enhance aesthetics
as well as protect against soil erosion. This special project is being
undertaken by Dir. Pete Ilagan in cooperation with the people living along
the highway. The club provides all materials as well as seedlings while
work is done by volunteers. A special metal fence will protect each tree
until they are mature enough in a few years time. The fence material is
also provided by the club.
LITERACY PROGRAM FOR STREET CHILDREN
Launched earlier this year, the project aims to provide for a classroom education of Tacloban's unfortunate street children. Volunteer teachers are provided by the Education department of the Leyte National University (LNU) while an assigned social worker from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) does the overall management of the project. The latest develeopment of which is the construction of their own classroom made possible through private donations to the club. This classroom will be built into the existing second floor of Tacloban City public market, a space provided through a Memorandum of Agreement entered into by the club with the Tacloban City government.
