Gugada Giel
as heard by Stephen Muratore
Once upon a time in a small city of far-away Italy there lived a little
boy named Gugada Giel. Gugada lived on the north side of a piazza. This
was a large circle of open ground with houses and shops all around it and
a beautiful fountain in the middle. It was a place where old people would
rest, children would play and the man on the vegetable truck would sing
out, "Fresh tomatoes, zucchini, mulinian, and spices for you!
Fresh from the farm today!"
One evening, Gugada Giel's mother sent him straight across the piazza to
the shop that sold pizza. She told him to bring home a big pizza for dinner.
This made Gugada Giel very happy and he ran to the pizza shop quickly.
But when he stepped out of the shop holding the large pizza in a box, he
discovered that it was raining very hard. He did not mind getting wet himself,
but he knew that his mother would not be pleased with a pizza that had puddles
on it. So he cried out, "Oui Maaaa! Jo ende! It's raining!"
