113. JANE ????, born Unknown.
Notes for John Cribbs:
I found John in the 1800 census for SC, residing in Liberty County. However, when I looked for Liberty Co., in SC, there was no such county by that name. The following is a direct quote from a book, "How Counties were made."
(Marion District in 1800 was identical in boundaries with its non-fuctioning subordinate county of Liberty, a carry over from the abortive Liberty County of old Georgetown District.) So, I know that John lived in Marion County in 1800, and six children residing in the same household (2 boys & 4 girls), plus his wife, Jane. Both John and Jane were between 26 and 45 years old in 1800. In finding that the oldest child was born in 1784, I think John would have been born sometime in the early 1760's. His wife being born sometime in the late 1760's or early 1770's. Where they were born or died is unknown. Do not know if they moved to Ga, or stayed in SC. We do know that he moved to Orangeburg, SC, for a time, around the year 1790.

221. MARY ????, born Unknown.
Notes for Francis McCall, Sr.
Revolutionary Soldier and patriot. Came from Ulster to the Cumberland Valley of Pennsylvania about 1730 and settled near the current town of Shippenburg in the community of Middle Spring. He remained there for 16 years. In the 1730's and 1740's, many Scotch-Irish familes moved into new lands in central and southwestern Virginia. Problems with the French and Indians led several McCall families to move futher south to North Carolina. Francis moved from Pulaski or Wythe Co., Virginia to Salisbury District of Mecklenburg Co., North Carolina. He did not received title to land until he received a grant in 1758 to land in Craven Co., South Carolina.
From Land records, State Captial, Raleigh, North Carolina, Royal Grant: Francis McCall of Anson Co., North Carolina, 282 acres of land No. 64, Grant No. 12, issued Dec 21, 1763, Book 13, page 343. In 1767, he bought 200 acres of land on both sides of Cedar Fork of Twelve Mile Creek in Mecklenburg Co., North Carolina. In the 1790 census, Francis is shown in District 19, which contained the city of Charlotte.
He gave material aid to the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War and in 1777 was appointed Constable of his district and in the Militia. In 1781, an act was passed granting to the people living on the southwest side of Mecklenburg Co., the privilege of holding a separate election for members of the Assembly. An act making it legal for the sheriff of this county or his deputy to hold this election in the home of Francis was adopted. This election area to include all within the bounds of the Companies commended by Captains Walker and Porter (both son-in-laws of Francis), Ray and Flinken. The home of Francis was on Twelve Mile Creek and Cedar Creek. He made his will Nov 24, 1793 and it was probated April 1794, daughter Jean Poeter executrix.

Notes for Robert Williams:
His removal to the PeeDee District of South Carolina and his settlement on "the westside of the river opposite to the lower side of Welch Neck" places the history of this Williams family in South Carolina. He was a man of abundant means and a large land owner. He lived and died on his plantation called "Millwood" now known as the "The Mill". He was a member of the Church of England, but soon after his removal to Sourth Carolina he joined the "Welch Neck Baptist Church", the only organized church in the neighborhood. On September 30, 1751, he was ordained a minister of this denomination and was Pastor of the Welch Neck Church. From records we find that "he was a minister and a sincere Christian who preached the gospel to the edification and comfort of souls." His official connection with the Welch Neck Church was of short duration. Owing to a question of Church discipline, he withdrew from the Chruch and on his absolutely declining to return, he was formally suspended and afterward excommunicated. The differences were later healed and although Robert was urged to resume his duties as minister, he would not come back as minister, he, however, was active as a Church member.
