Smiley Face Potholder



This is a Smiley face potholder I had to sort of work out the pattern to. I found some like this at the house when we were cleaning it out that belonged to Scott's Grandma. There were Smiley Faces, Watermelons and Round decorative hotpads. So this may not be a new idea or pattern but I came up with it based on what I found there. My version may not be the same as the actual potholder, however and is copyrighted to me, Marla Caneer and may be printed for personal or charity use only and is not nor the item made from it to be sold.

Size F crochet hook and 2 coordinating colors yarn.

Abbreviations used:

Vst= Vstitch- Dc, ch 1, dc
Shell= 2dc, ch 1, 2dc
3dc shell= 3dc, ch 1, 3dc

Make 2 motifs as follows:

ch 4, join to first chain to form a ring.

Rnd 1: ch 3, (dc, ch 1) 11 more times in ring. Join to starting chain with a slip stitch.


Rnd 3: Shell in each vst, join to first stitch.

Rnd 4: Shell in each shell, join to first stitch.

Rnd 5: 3dc shell in each shell, join.

Finish off and make 2nd Motif.

Edging/joining:

Holding Both Motifs together, working through both motifs:

Rnd 1: Join Color B w/slip st BETWEEN 2 shells, ch 2. (Dc BETWEEN shells, 9 Dc in shell) around. Join to starting chain.

Rnd 2: Sc in each st. around. join to first st. Finish off.

Eyes: (make 2) Ch 2, 11 sc in 2nd chain from hook, join to first stitch. Finish off.

Mouth: ch 18, sc in each ch across.

Sew eyes and mouth to appropriate places on potholder on One side of potholder only using color B.
