To A Tribute To My Dad

My Dad, George Robert Watts, was the greatest Dad a girl could ever want. Although he was not my real Father, I was as much a daughter to him as if I were his own flesh and blood. My Dad never lost his temper with me, although I am sure there were times when he had every right to do so. He was a strong, yet very sensitive man. I remember when I had the measles and was so very sick, broke out from head to toe with a nasty red rash, he itched. When my mother was pregnant, he had morning sickness, too. He and my mother had two living daughters together before he was taken at the early age of 42 from a fatal heart attack. His friends would joke with him about having a good start on an all girls baseball team.

He had always worked hard to make a living for his family. He worked the farm, just outside Lamar, Missouri, until it became necessary for him to supplement the farms income with an income from an outside source. He worked for Aarons Poultry for several years then after they closed he went to work for Norris Grain Elevator. The dust from the grain caused severe health problems that forced him to leave.

He applied for a position with the Postal Service, took the Civil Service test and was so proud when he passed it and was accepted. He had been with the Post Office as a janitor for three weeks when he suffered a heart attack and was discovered laying across the window sill by a pedestrian . He was pronounced dead on arrival at the emergency room.

My Dad may have been just an ordinary man by most standards, but by no means was he ordinary to me. He passed away just after Easter in 1957, and yet it seems like it was just a short while ago. He was and still is someone very special to me.

Post Script: Unfortunately the youngest daughter born to my Dad and Mom has gone on to be with Daddy. She passed away February 15, 2002. She is so very missed.
Our Mother went to be with the Lord October 9, 2004.
Now they are together again. They are all very missed.

Daddy, Mother, Sissy, I love you.
